Well, I hope they will be offering more than one Nexus phone. If not, I'll probably just go with the Note 2 or something similar.

Do you guys think Google will announce on Oct 29th whether VZW is getting their phone or not?

I'm really hoping that Google announces that the Nexus program is being opened up to all "approved" manufacturers based on a handset fulfilling specific guideline specs for two reasons: firstly because it would free up Google to go crazy with Motorola without pissing off other brands too much, and secondly, because it might lead to a qwerty Nexus. Unfortunately, with the dearth of additional hardware leaks, it is seeming unlikely.

I rly kinda doubt anybody knows this for sure. You will have to wait for the announcement. But its very possible since the last GN is now EoL on Verizon.

Unless you are in Google's mind I don't think anyone can know for sure what they are thinking and which direction they are heading.

I don't see how this would be a smart move. Letting these phone makers update Nexus phones in a timely manner when they can't even do it with their own phones? I don't think any maker even wants to be a part of the Nexus program anyway. Its not an overwhelmingly high selling phone in comparison to what normal OEM's are used to.

First of all the nexus certification program was all bogus, it was a joke from a fake bogger sending in the report to android and me. Secondly I wouldn't rule out a Verizon and sprint version but it's not happening this week. A year ago we heard rumors about the nexus being a Verizon exclusive nearly a month before the event, this year? Nothing

If carrier versions are coming soon, I think we'll hear about it at the announcement.

My friend who is an android developer says he has seen the new nexus 4 and it is a great phone, "much better than the new moto's". However, he said that the announcement next week will reveal a release date a month further away than expected since the phone is have build quality issues with things breaking. Said that the back part is very shiny and feels like glass. Said very good things about the design. Also confirmed the 16GB and lack of LTE in the model he saw. Take that for what it is worth.

On the other hand, I've purposely beat the living crap out the the Optimus G I have here, and spoke at length last night with a Google employee who has an "Optimus G class device" who has also stress tested it. Not a scratch.

I can hardly wait to hear the official announcement from Google. Rumors have been running around like crazy. I truly hope they plan to release 16 and 32GB versions of this new Nexus phone, though. I know Google is pushing cloud storage but given how apps are getting bigger, local storage is important.

Yes and limited data plans don't bode well for Google Music. I first tried Google Music in February, I had a 2 gig data plan at the time. Within a week of playing music off of it I used 1.2 gigs. Honestly if not for limited data, I really wouldn't even care about storage

I could probably make a 16 gig work but 8 there is no way. Honestly 8 gig devices are a joke in 2012, they should all be discontinued

I am really really really hoping for a 32GB version to be available at launch or soon after, if there isn't one I'll settle for 16GB but won't be too stoked. The rest of the phone looks amazing! I was deciding between this and the Note 2, but this would be my first Nexus device so that one factor makes me go for the Nexus 4. All about the updates!

I like music but I end up streaming most the time, simply because I am on an unlimited plan. Once my rebate comes in I am dropping to the 2GB+ tether so will want to localize music more. That said, I went to look up how much music holds what and something like 1000 songs is 4GB. So imo its entirely possible to get by with an 8GB phone as long as you don't plan on keeping movies or games.

If its a $50 difference between 8GB and 16 then I'll likely get the 16, if its more than $50 I'll prob shoot for the cheaper option.

I could live with 16gb of storage, currently have 10.93 free out of 32.. Wouldn't be ideal but could live with it...

I can't live without 4G LTE, since i am on VZW i am not paying an ETF to move to inferior network speeds.

This is precisely what I'm thinking. With unlimited data it doesn't matter but with limited plans, it sucks. You'd have to use your phone mainly in WiFi to avoid overage.

Lol songs! You actually buy that marketing rubbish about how many songs your device can hold? Some songs are 15 minutes long, others are under a minute. And your file size depends on your bit rate. They came up with a song rating when 128k was the standard, but 128 yields some splashy cymbals, nowadays 320k is the standard which is about twice the size on average as a 128k one. No way is 4 gig going to give you even close to 4000 songs.

I used too make mp3 disc's and with my encoding using LAME alt-preset-standard, I could usually fit about 120 songs on a 700 mb disc. So doing the math I can get around 685 songs on a 4 gb partition, even then that's not completely accurate though. If you check out my old school Metallica disc, I got significantly less than 120 as their old songs were long.

So that my take. The 1000 songs per gigabyte equation is extremely generous!

I went off a random Google search and found someone talking about it, wasn't anything Google or Apple told me it would hold. I also have no idea how you got that conversion because I said 1000 songs in 4GB. I honestly am not an audiophile so even the barebones smallest file I'm sure would work for me. Point is, even if I get 300 songs on my device it would be enough for my average uses. I mostly stream but there are times when I would prefer local(like if my data plan is getting too high up there), or I end up in a store where data isn't available.

The only downside I see to the storage is that I like to take video of my Nieces and Nephews during the time I have them and that might fill up the phone fast. But I just signed up for Google drive and that could be a nice alternative to storing them on the phone. Once the vid is taken its not a necessity for it to stay there as long as I have it somewhere.

Sorry my bad, I misread, saw 4000 songs somehow. 1000 songs is more realistic.

Yeah you can fit quite a bit of songs with even a gig, I mean I used to use a 1 gig mp3 player. I eventually upgraded to a 2 gig and thats when I decided I was sick of having to constantly re sync my music with my PC as I'd get tired of what I had, and wanted something that I could dump a ton of music on and not get bored with it. So I grabbed an old school 30gb zune, and I found 30 is the sweet spot where you always have plenty of room for more, but you don't have more than what you listen too. On average I used 16-18 gigs of my zune
