Google gives up on US carriers - RCS Update Live in Play Store/Rolling Out

Yeah chat features enabled for me on Verizon as well now. Got notification couple of days back for my unlocked model on Verizon.

Thanks just checked still not there. Message app is telling me chat features are unavailable for this device, even though I had a carrier service update yesterday as well as message app. Both updated 20 hrs ago

Clear data on both messages and carrier services then restart the phone and open messages. It should then ask you to set up chat.

I downloaded the Google messaging app a couple weeks ago. All messages migrated immediately when I changed it to my default.

Today I noticed my unlocked Verizon S10e let me activate the chat features.

I didn't have to use your method although it is appreciated that you shared. Got the update last night without having to do anything additional

Does this mean we can send(and receive)full resolution pictures and videos to iPhones on iMessage now? Or will they still be poor quality?

No. Apple doesn't support RCS at this time.

Nope, didn't work
Sorry don't know what to say. Does your phone number show up in settings? If it is missing you will need to put your sim into an iPhone and setting your number under the phone option in iOS settings. Then put it back into your Android phone and reboot phone. Hopefully it should work.

I don't want RCS. I don't want a messaging system that cannot be backed-up then restored after factory reset or device replacement.

I use SyncTech Pty Ltd's SMS Backup & Restore utility every night to save my SMS/MMS messages to my Google Drive. If I need to replace my phone I can restore my entire SMS/MMS history compete with picture attachments.

Google's cloud will automatically back up the text of SMS/MMS messaging, but will not back up and restore the picture attachments. Google Pixel Support suggests we can extract the pictures from the messages, save them to the photo gallery and Google cloud will back them up from there, but it is not acceptable to lose the context of those pictures in our conversations.

When will RCS backup/restore be supported by Google or a third party app? If you adopt RCS before backup/restore support is available you're saying it's okay to lose your messaging history whenever disaster strikes.

I tend to agree, plus I don't know anyone else with an Android either! I hope RCS and iMessage can play nicely together some day.

I'm with you on that. No backup option, coupled with the fact 95% of the people I communicate with use an iPhone leaves me in no rush to move to RCS. Perfectly happy still using Textra for SMS/MMS. I got my iPhone-using wife hooked on Google Photos years ago so that's how we share pictures and videos anyway. The new messaging-style sharing in Google Photos is actually pretty great.
