Google hangouts

My wife and I have the same phone. I use hangouts and she still uses the stock messaging app. For some reason, some of the pics she sends me will be black and white. Other times they are in color.
What would cause this?

I think Hangouts use color pics automatically. But I also get color pics of my wife on stock messaging so I guess my answer is invalid..

Do you happen to have Power Saving mode enabled on your phone?

If you look back in the stock Messaging app on your phone, do the pictures also show up in Black & White there too?

I dont see anything in the power saving mode that would do that.

What happens if your wife sends the same pictures (that are already black & white) via email? Do they show up in color?

You could turn Hangouts off temporarily (from within Hangouts, Settings -> SMS, uncheck 'Turn on SMS') and see what happens. Have her resend the same SMS from her phone.
