Hour do I get rid of this now, kind of a redundant feature (since I can hold the space bar for the same thing). It used to be a lot easier before Lollipop. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

They do different things. The round icon switch between languages with just one touch, which is quite handy. And when you long press the space bar a menu will pop up to change languages or different keyboards. The redundancy is with the keyboard icon bottom right, that makes just the same thing.

Hmmm so I can't get rid of it now? The settings don't seem to have the option anymore...

Nope, as far as I know. I don't use Google keyboard much. For my needs SwiftKey is way better.

Thanks, I've tried Swiftkey & not my cup of tea. I'll have to make due then.
