On my brand new Galaxy S there are two applications for reading email. One called google mail and another called Email.

What's the difference between them? Why google made two apps?

Also, Initially I had a shortcut to google mail, so I configured it. Then I found Email and I like it more than google mail. So I wanted to configure Email instead of google mail. At the end I thought that I better delete all settings from google mail, but now it tells me that my last account required by some application and that I cannot remove it anymore. Anyone knows how to fix this?

Thanks.

What I did was to disable notifications within the GMail account and have everything going through the default email application.

Oh... This solution may actually work for me.

Although, this is still a problem. Google mail may still check email and still consume bandwidth and battery. This is may not be a big thing, but I am wondering if there's a better way to solve this problem.
Thanks.

Gmail is specifically designed to work with gmail accounts. The email app is for everything else. Other email accounts don't have the same features or behind-the-scenes support that Google can provide specifically for gmail.

You'll need to be more specific. What's the exact message? You should be able to delete the account from the gmail app if you don't want it set up there.

I find the two ways of doing email kinda redundant, but oh well. I want to have unread notifications on the icon itself (where it shows in a red bubble how many emails that are unread) i use the stock email client and was told the gmail one is the only one that does this, however my gmail icon wont update. It never recieves email. Do i have to disable the email icon for the gmail one to work, or how do i get the gmail one to work?

I use both apps for email. I run mt Google Apps email through the default email app, and my gmail email through the gmail app. If you want to stop the email from doubling up (synching in both apps) Go into account settings and disable email sync for the specific gmail account. Keep calendar and contact synching.

I only have one gmail account but it goes though both the stock gmail and email account how do I get it to only go through the gmail account so I can get unread message indicator.
