Google Maps Crashes EVO

Google maps causes a hard reset of my EVO any time I launch it. I have tried both the updated version of the app and the base version that came on the phone out of the box. When it resets, it takes a longer time than normal for the OS to load. Just tried Sprint Nav, it crashed too. Could I have a hosed GPS radio? Any things you recommend me trying?

exact same thing happened to me, when I first got my phone. did a full reset and hasn't happened since.

I tried a hard reset and all is well now. Thinking that one of the apps I installed must have not played well with my phone.

The only time my phone has reset is when I had Google Maps running while listening to DoggCatcher. On two occasions, I took a call and the phone reset. I don't know if the culprit is Google or DoggCatcher.

I am seeing this as well. I am noticing that my evo crashes/restarts every time I use a GPS bades app!! I was using Google maps all day without issue and all of the sudden the accuracy was way off. I descided to power the phone off and back on, and ever since then it crahses every time I try to fire up a GPS based app. It has reset using Google maps, Sprint Nav and the Compass app. As soon as the GPS notification pops up the phone resets. I hope this thread gets some attention becasue half the apps I use are GPS based. If this isn't resolved quickly then the phone is going back! Please help...

Try a hard reset as someone stated earlier.

Based on the manifestation of cloak's problem as well as mine, I think it's probably something glitchy with the GPS radio rather than the application or OS. Since the hard reset I've installed the latest radio firmware and two other ROMs and had no problems.

I had the same exact problem. After I stopped using my task killer I never had the issue again. But even after a hard reset, as long as I used a task killer the problem came back.

So, what exactly is a hard reset? I have powered off and back on, and have also removed the battery. Are there "other" ways to reset?

I had the same exact problem. After I stopped using my task killer I never had the issue again. But even after a hard reset, as long as I used a task killer the problem came back.

When you say "stopped using task killer" does that mean you uninstalled it or does that mean you just don't use it to kill open apps? After the phone resets, I have task killer installed but I do not use it at all. As soon as I launch something that uses the GPS, boom, it resets.

Update: Either way, this does not seem to be my problem. I unistalled app killer, restarted the phone and launched google maps and the phone reset. This is a real deal breaker for me. :-(

Update#2: Hard reset seems to have fixed me up (for now). Not sure what got crossed up but starting over from scratch seems to have worked.

Hard reset is not fixing this problem for me. I did have ATK though.. but it's long gone and I have hard reset both ways - from the operating system itself and while holding the volume button down. Now what do I do? Bring the phone in?

Not for me as far as I can tell - this will happen to me on the second or third time I open Maps after a hard reset, without installing a thing.

This happens to my wife, and it normally does it with Sprint Nav as well. When the GPS is off, then you engage Google Maps or Sprint NAV and GPS is then enabled, it reboots. Almost every time. :|

She has no crazy custom software, no task killer, etc.

I am picking up my replacement EVO this afternoon for that exact problem. I talked to CS and they couldn't fix it, then did a hard reset and that worked for about three days and then the problem returned. Couldn't take it any longer since I'm on vacation and need my gps. I hope my replacement works better.

I have been having the exact same problem with any app that uses the GPS.(Google Maps, Sprint Nav, Compass, etc) Gonna try to the hard reset before exchanging the phone.

Just did the hard reset and things appear to be working. Going to reinstall apps one by one. If I isolate the problem app, I will let everyone know.
