Google Maps High CPU once per day

Bit of a strange one but I've got Watch Dog (lite) installed and once per day I get an alert about Google maps using 50% + CPU. This normally co-incides with Tasker turning my wifi on automatically first thing in the morning.

Is anyone else having similar Google Maps High CPU usage issues, or any idea what Google Maps is doing once per day? Is there some sort of update going on?

I don't think it's tasker related as when the profile runs again later in the day (when I get home) I don't get a warning.

I have heard that Google Maps updates its cache once a day (pulling down map info for locations near you or near places you have searched) This should make more of the map info available for offline use.
