Google Messenger vs Verizon Messages

To be clear, I don't have any issues with collecting data. I have concerns about what happens with it after that. If that data never leaves the servers of whoever collected it and is used only to improve products and services; have at it. If it's ever sold or traded to another company without my specific consent on each transaction, IMO that's unacceptable. Microsoft, Verizon, Apple, AT&T, etc, etc all give themselves permission to sell/trade/share at various levels, but Verizon and AT&T I can confirm actually do it. I'm a Verizon customer, they're the best service in my area, but I avoid giving them any and all data whenever possible because I know it's being sold.

The only way to not give Verizon any info is to not use Verizon as your carrier.
It does not matter if you use their installed apps or not.

I have moved from message + to Google messenger because it gives me access to all of my Google contacts which I haven't been able to do with Verizon. Also upon changing phones my wife has discovered twice that her contacts did not transfer with message +. However I still use Verizon on my Nexus 7 because the play store says Google messenger is "incompatible."

I like VZ Messenger, but I had problems with group messages not always going through to all in the group message. So I went back to Google Messenger. Anyone else experience (good or bad) with group messages using VZ Messenger?

Because there is no native SMS/MMS on a tablet.

The comments here convinced me to give it a try. The one issue I have seen so far is with my Android wear watch. The Verizon app seems to give me multiple notifications, which Google does not. I'll keep experimenting.

+1 for Hangouts. I actually switched to it when in the old days of Android Wear, you had to use Hangouts (I think) to get it to sync.

Now I'm so used to it I IM and video chat. Plus I hate having multiple apps to do the same thing.

I like the Driving Mode auto reply with Verizon Message +.
When your in a vehicle that requires a CDL, FMCSA regulations state that a driver can't use a handheld mobile telephone while in control if the vehicle so it's one less thing to worry about.

Is this different than Moto Voice?

It sends an auto reply text to the recipient that says your driving and you will get back to them later.
You can customize the message to have say it anything you'd like.

I keep switching back and forth. I do like the features of messages+ but it looks like something from gingerbread. I like that messenger matches the material design of the rest of the phone

Does it automatically know you're driving?

I just customize all the colors and fonts to make it look better. There are a lot of options.

Yes you can change the colors. But for instance I'll make my wife's texts purple. But then she's in a group chat and is whatever color is in line. It's silly. In Google messenger I can set her to purple and every thread she's in she maintains that color

Gotcha. I use different text tones, not colors, so I wouldn't have experienced that annoyance. Understand though.

I have different text tones for a few frequent contacts. I just don't like that in a 1 on 1 conversation she comes in as purple and When I'm in a group chat she's green or red or pink depending on her position in the order

It's OK man. We all battle our OCD in different ways friend. :)
