All of a sudden my contact names aren't being displayed, only the phone numbers...
Anybody else?

I've had this issue pop up several times after I updated to 6.0. Usually this happened after the phone had been on for a few days without a restart. When I restart the phone the names usually pop back up. I'd guess it is some sort of bug.

I don't know if it did anything or not, but over on XDA there is a flashable zip that has the phone dialer and contacts from the Nexus phones (so it has the local search in the phone dialer). After I installed that and disabled the regular phone and contacts app that came with the phone, I haven't had any more issues. *NOTE* Only attempt this if you are familiar with manually setting permissions (in case something goes awry).

There seems to be a Motorola bug in Contacts app with certain phone numbers formats, apparently. Checkout my thread here
Both Google messenger and Motorola's "Messaging" app fails to recognize contacts numbers in Marshmallow. However, I've found that Hangouts does a good job here, and recognized contacts in all phone numbers variants, so I'm using it now for SMS.

What region are you in? Sounds like the same issue Coresh is having.

California. I restarted and the came back. Really don't want to have to restart all the time for these little issues...
Hopefully it will get fixed at some point.
Thanks for the reponses

Odd. I use Google Messenger and don't have this issue.

How are you storing your contacts?
Sync via Google Contacts?
All ten digits for the number?

You're on 6.0 Marshmallow, correct?

BTW, someone in other android forum I'm in, is participating in Motorola's MM SOAK test, and after I've reported the contacts problem he introduced it to the SOAK testers forum. Apparently there are people there that are also having this problem, but they just didn't seem to relate it to the region/country prefix number. Now that it is reported, I hope Motorola will fix it ASAP.

6.0 correct. Sync via Google Contacts.
All ten digit numbers. The format does vary though, from (555)555-5555 to 555-555-5555
Regardless of the format, no contact was displayed when I had the issue.
