Does anyone know how the invitations for the beta music service works? I have a Verizon 3g xoom and know Google announced we will be beta testers but since then I haven't heard anything. I did request an invite to music.Google.com but there was no field or area regarding if I was a Verizon xoom owner. I would love to try out the service as I have my xoom, a thunderbolt, and Google tv plus 16,000 songs. I still have yet to receive my 3.1 update on my xoom.

i signed up for an invite the very second they announced it, i did not have a xoom at the time (i do now) and have not gotten an email, i have the apps on my xoom and phone but no music manager.

my friend who got a 3g xoom at launch said he got the download for the music manager right as soon as he requested an invitation.

I have the same questions. I haven't received my invite to Google music or my update. On twitter, I've seen that a few people who went to the I/O got their invites. So maybe Google is giving them out to reporters first?
I'm eager for the update, I want to try their new movie rental service. It will tide me over until we get Netflix or I sign up for Amazon streaming service.

I did some digging and emailed the music beta team to inquire about my invite, hopefully it helps speed things along. I'll post the response once I get it.

So I assume you purchased the Wi-Fi version. I did too. After hearing the talk about the 3g version, do you wish you had it instead?

When I powered up my unit the other day, it immediately did a system update and upgraded Maps and Music from Android Central. The version of music I got was 3.0. And I read yesterday that it's the version needed for music beta by Google. If I go into the help screen from the Music App 3.0, they reference the music beta on most of the screens. I guess the Music Manager your friend got is different?

When first heard of this new cloud service from Google a couple of days ago, the report was that Xoom users would be the priority. Yesterday that changed along with the story about the 3.1 upgrade and the Xoom 3g users.

I've yet to hear from anyone that has an invite except for those attending the Google I/O.

Who knows?

When you mean system update did you mean just market applications were updated or an software update to 3.1?

for $200 more for the device and a monthly fee on top of that for something i would never use, no i'm glad i didn't get the 3g version.

i got the updates for the apps too, that's different than the 3.1 update (which my friend still does not have either)

what i meant is when he did the invite for google music on their website he was able to download the music manager for his pc so that he could upload music to the cloud, that's the music manager that we all need to upload music.

Software update. And that went to 3.0.1. I guess the 3.1 is just being distributed to the 3g owners over the next couple of weeks. At least that's what I read in the news.

I got an invitation yesterday. but not with the gmail account that i had send in a request with. I am also still waiting for the 3.1 update for my 3g xoom.

I got the update in the Android Market on Tuesday and I got this e-mail on Wednesday at 12:58 pm PDT.

I got my invite. It took me 24 hours to upload all my music with the uploader app, but it stays in sync from now on with iTunes so that's awesome. It looks like I got it for being a xoom owner

That's neat. I guess that's what the invites look like. Are you a 3g user? Did you sign up for an invite? If you did, when did you sign up?

Thanks

Did you request an invite? Are you a 3g user?

If you got it for being a xoom owner, I'm trying to figure out how they are determining that. I called Motorola yesterday and they have no idea.

Thanks

I am a 3G user, and no I did not sign up for anything.

I wonder if VZW provided Google with a list of xoom owners or if Google can tell which device your gmail is attached to. It's killing me I can't get the service started I think I would use it daily between work and weekends.

I got an email with the account I use for my Xoom saying thank you for being a Xoom user, here is Music Beta for you. I Did request an invite using a different email but did not request an invite using the Email they gave me Beta on.

I am a 3G user. I bought it through the verizon store on Lanuch day...

I got my Google Music invite after I went into the updated Music app settings and hit "Connect to Music Beta using <my Gmail acct>". When I exited the Music app, the beta invite appeared in my Gmail account. I'm not sure if they are related, but it's worth a shot.

As far as "How Google knows that you are a Xoom owner?" - I thought you had to provide an email address or Google account when you first setup a Xoom... If that's not it, there's your Android Market history, if you updated any Xoom apps off Android Market, they know who you are.

For some reson I don't have the Settings menu. How did you access the settings menu? I did confirm that its Music version 3.0.

Yeahhh...where are the settings in the new Music app?

From what I can tell it doesn't exist unless you are already in the invite. Which is interesting because I don't think they actually update the app when you get in, which means the app is polling a server and waiting to unlock itself.
