Ever since I uploaded all my music, it seems Google has completely ruined my album art. Lots of my music have the same cover even tho it's completely different bands and genre's.

I'll be listening to ACDC and it'll show an Eminem album art.. wth? Is there a way to fix this?

You'll have to do it manually by going to music.google.com. From there, and find the individual albums with incorrect art and click on "edit album info." hover over the album art and you'll see an option to change it.
Make sure you have the art saved to your computer first. The change option will prompt you to select a file from your computer.

It's a pain and very time consuming. I've also read on the interwebs that Google play music is getting a match feature sometime in the near future that will scan your music collection and auto add the songs to your account. I'm not sure if or when that might launch.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Android Central Forums

Best way to go about it is to have all your music properly tagged and with their album art before uploading to Google Play Music. I have about 5,000 songs in my Google Play Library and I've only experienced a couple of small inconsistencies with some album art. Nothing mayor.

Were your tags correct? Was the correct song info and album art embedded to each and every music file?

The tag's were correct. Some albums didnt have art and I'm finding that google replaced the blank tags with random images from my other music..it's really messed up.

Yes any music player other than the stock Android player (N7, music match, etc) seem to screw up the album art. I had 1,000 songs painstakingly tagged and it still wanted to "fix" them so I let it. It got about 50% wrong, ridiculous. I deleted the players and went back to the stock player and all is well. It did not change my correctly tagged songs permanently, thank god...

Here's an example of what i'm talking about, as you can see, the entire top row are various artists, but Google Music decided to put Yung Joc as the album art???

even with the google match i still am getting errors...this is so freakin annoying.
I have albums I purchased from Amazon as MP3 so they were tagged correctly and Google is splitting them in to 2-3 albums and no cover art..
where as in my amazon player all is cool. For example: I have The essential Jimi hendrix cd vol 1& 2 (1979) and google puts it in as a 2010 release 'Valley of Neptune'. I think they see the song find when it was released and just throw it up there. and no I am not going through my 5000 songs to make it right isn't that why we have this service to begin with..make our life easier..stupid internet:confused:

I'm having a different kind of issue. I'm not concerned so much with album art but instead it's splitting albums into two. It duplicates albums but is then separating it so that half the tracks are in one album and the other tracks are in the duplicate. I can't seem to get them to merge back.

I've had the same issue. However, I've been able to fix it by correcting the "Album Artist" tag that seemed to get altered during upload. (I guess Google was pulling the track from its library?!) Having two songs, from the same album, but with different "Album Artist"s resulted in the songs appearing in two different albums (but otherwise with the same name, album art, etc.)

This was particularly noticeable on compilation ("Various" or "Various Artists") albums. On my original mp3 file the "Album Artist" tag had the value "Various Artists" (as created when the track was ripped). However, during upload some tracks resulted in the "Album Artist" field being deleted - these tracks then got moved to an album that simply had the artist "Various" (as opposed to "Various Artists"). Adding "Various Artists" to the tracks where the "Album Artist" was empty resolved this (which you can do quite quickly by selected all tracks in the erroneous album). Or, in this case, you could do it the other way and remove the "Album Artist" from those tracks where it was still present.

Did you find an elegant solution for this? I have the EXACT same problem and it's driving me nuts! >.< I have over a 1000 tracks that are like this, so correcting each one manually is a bit silly.

I do not own an Android device, but when it comes to other "tag-sorting" portable music players, a free utility called taghycardia always helps me a lot. I simply run all my mp3 downloads through it before putting the music on a device. The program fixes incorrect or missing tags, and downloads/embeds album art whenever it is absent, all of this automatically or in a semi-auto mode. As stated on its site, it is specifically written to ensure the accessibility of mp3 albums (and compilations) on music playing devices that sort tracks by their tags.

Chiming in: (using latest versions as of august 20 2013)

Slightly different but similar problem. I spent inordinate time tagging and adding art. Yet some albums show no art in google music. There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason. The artwork shows up fine in when i look at the files in windows file browsing and in media monkey. Every forum about album art problems has the same "solution" - edit the tag in google play. This is worthless advice. When tags show up properly in other apps, what is the point in having to re-tag things.

Yet every few dozen albums are blank and when i go and edit tags on my computer, making SURE i get everything right (inluding embedding the art in the tag), I then delete the album in google and upload it again from scratch. But the only thing that works is going through the google album editor and manually selecting the artwork.

Tagging has been a headache in all apps since day one. Too many standards, not enough consistency, not powerful enough group editing. I'm getting really sick of every single new music app I use having a NEW set of issues with tagging.

Theories: (untested and wonder if anyone knows)
1) file format for the artwork? I use jpeg whenever i can though a few png files may have snuck in. Although when i re-upload problem albums I make sure to use jpg. Is google super sensitive to file format? When i manually select the artwork via google music, i am choosing the same artwork that i originally tag with but google may be converting the file as it uploads, thus explaining why it works that way and not when you edit on the home computer. Various fine-grain differences in jpeg formatting is my best guess for this intensely annoying issue.

2) art file size too big? For some albums I go out of my way to choose larger high res art to tag with, perhaps google doesn't like larger filesizes? Again, when i manually pick the SAME large artwork via google, it works, but again google might be converting the image as it uploads.

3) fine grain formatting differences in mp3 or other files? Even though my 'problem' albums are in mp3 format, tiny encoding differences may cause problems.

Also, I just wish when something goes wrong that a simple error message would pop up "Hello, this is google, your album art did not load because blah blah" would be nice. then i could get somewhere solving this.

I had this problem before, and after hours of searching and painstakingly fixing my album art, it's fixed. :D Here is what I did:
1. i downloaded Tagscanner, there's this vid in youtube where there is a link. here is the video's url How to add lyrics and cover (artwork) to a song - Android Music Player - YouTube
2.i deleted all my albumthums, you can find it in sdcard>android>data>media. delete all.
3. in tagscanner, click browse and select the folder where you have your songs, edit your album art, and remember to add a name in the album. this is very important because if you don't put any name in the album, it will put random pictures in your album art and ignore the album art you saved.
4. save everything.
5. if there are still songs that have the wrong album art, you can change the album art, and if the problem is still there, download another version of the song.:)
hope this helps.

I'm registered for you.. Cuz THX SO MUCH!!! Everyone says and of course u says too download album arts... But my album already true... Only phone showing up them wrong... When i do this

2.i deleted all my albumthums, you can find it in sdcard>android>data>media. delete all.

Download the app called Star Music Tag Editor
when inside the app go on the tab songs and choose one when it opens if the correct album art is there then type in the artists name and the album name, scroll down to the bottom and tap keep and tap the first name at the top then tap save at the top right it should work it fixed mine

Mine should one album art for all songs even tho in itunes is should the specific album art of its songs

hope this helped

sometimes its doesnt work just reload the app
