Google needind body sensors

I stopped using the Gmail app when it started requiring access to body sensors (I still use Gmail, but on a different app).

I am using Google's messages app and now I am getting constant notifications that the app can't function properly unless I allow it to access body sensors, though the app still seems to be working properly. Guess I'll have to stop using that app.

This problem with Google apps demanding body sensors access has gone on for over two years. Does anyone know of any way to stop that problem except by avoiding those Google apps which demand access they don't need?

I stopped using the Gmail app because it actually stopped sending emails. Said it could not send mail unless I allowed it to access body sensors.

I suppose I could stop Google Play notifications, but then I would not get notifications of apps which need updating.

I can, of course, use another messaging app. I just wish this problem with Google apps could be fixed. I like Google's apps.

I just deleted the Google messaging app. Went back to the stock app. May try some other non-Google app.

I don't know why Google is sabotaging their apps. Wish they would stop.

it sounds like trying to connect to something, I have never had this issue come up.

I've found the Gmail mail app inconsistent - I keep going back to my Bluemail app - emails come through more consistently that way.

Since when does Gmail require access to body sensors?

It only wants permission to access three functions and your can turn them all off.

Are you using the actual Gmail app, or a third party app?

I did not say that the android messages app needed body sensors. In fact, I went back to using the android messages app when the Google messages app I was using caused multiple notifications that the app needed body sensors. For this problem, Google Play Services was posting the notification that the Google messaging app needed body sensors.

Well, you kinda did. But I see your point. I forgot about Google Play Services.

By the way I turned off body sensors in Google Play Services and it still allowed me to send an email from the Gmail app.

I can also still use Google Maps with it turned off too.

I don't use Google Messages, so I can't test that. I don't use any Android Wearables, though I do have a Gear Sport watch, so we'll see if it effects that.

Glad the Gmail app is working now. It was the Gmail app itself which refused to work for me unless I turned on body sensors.

I don't know why it doesn't work for you. I can't figure what is different. Is your phone carrier branded or unlocked? I'm on Verizon and I have the Verizon version. Although, I don't know why they would make a difference.

I also turned off body sensors on my Tab S2 and it works on that too.

I'm on Verizon. I was on Sprint when I had the problem with the Gmail app. This was a generally known problem. Googled it and Google was aware of the problem and was going to fix it real soon. Did not get in any hurry to fix it. Glad the Gmail app is working now.

The problem I had with Google's messaging app is easily fixed -- I just stopped using it. Google is making it difficult for people to use their apps.
