Google needs to take a lesson from Apple

Me thinks many here are completely missing my point...

I think by the end of this year we will start seeing some big changes in Android. I'm not sure how much you keep up with what's going on with Android but there has been some big changes lately and on October 29th I expect more.

LOL, I am on here all the time. I have had several android phones and love 'em! I just jumped to iPhone a few months ago. After my fourth Rezound went bad on me I decided to go apple for a bit. I have this iPhone 5 now, but not so impressed with it. I mean, it's a great phone, but not THAT much better than my 4 was. I really only got it because I wanted to go back to LTE (I'm on Verizon, have been for many many years....) and none of current androids on Verizon thrilled me.

My entire point of this thread was that I wish Google would stand up to a direct competition with apple. The unlocked nexus is a start, but it needs to remain basically the same outwards, but get better innards. Also, tell carriers that those carrier versions of the nexus will get updates directly from google and not carry any crap. Like apple does with the iPhone.

They do that and I am back to android. I got tired of waiting for Verizon to tweak os updates and release to us. I don't have to worry about that with the iPhone.

The rest of the manufacturers can keep doing as they are. I just want to see google provide a more apple like experience. They are doing something right to garner so many customers.

I agree with the updates. Especially since you are with Verizon, they are the worst with updates. I'm not sure they will even get the next Nexus after what they did and are doing. I guess we will find out on the 29th, and I really hope and think Google will takeover the update process for all Nexus devices from here on out.

Maybe google should not release updates to their gsm devices until it's ready to be released by verizon and sprint, it would give the illusion of a apple like release of updates..... And who would know it could have been available to some devices sooner.

Uhhhh no blame the carriers as Google provides their updates in a timely manner you got issues stop buying branded devices switch to gsm and call it done Google doesnt need a lesson your carrier does just like with most oem updates they are ready way before release but carriers kill it this is why I root never cout on updates ever

Sounds like this gets said every year.

It's hard build and sell your own hardware and devices as a company that sells advertising.

It shouldn't be that hard, they make billions a year for goodness sake.

But guess whos got the power I promise its not Google in order for Google to make anything off the nex it has to sell I bet money most carriers dont care as much as you think they have iPhone aka their cash cow and nexus phones although they sell alright they arent nearly big enough to give Google leverage so carriers can make their demands because carriers can say no and probably wont loose much if nex sold as well as iPhone then and only then would Google be able to make those demands

Carriers would probably love to sell Android devices over iPhone devices though. Based on reports floating around, it's assumed that subsidizing most Android phones costs carriers less than subsidizing iPhones. Let's also not forget that with Android, carriers can add bloat.

Like it or not, carriers treat Android like the feature phones of yesteryear.

Dont look at android as a whole when dealing with this particular issue android outsells for many reasons flooding being one but look at it from their perspective of what does this phone offer them if it doesnt make them piles of money then why buy it Verizon holds the power in that situation not Google

I've said it before.

I'll say it again.

With Google's Android already winning the marketshare battle, Google is already getting what it wants out of Android - YOU. Your information. Your data. Your habits. Your location.

If Google wants the Nexus brand to be the Android brand, they'll play nice with the carriers. If they don't want to give in, other OEMs will step up to bat with Android-based offerings. As long as those devices still ship with Google services, Google is still getting what they want out of Android.

Does Google want to compete with OEMs that use Android? Or are they content developing the Android software that hardware OEMs take and bundle with Google services?

I don't. The carriers have no reason to move any quicker. Especially when we continue to purchase the phones they put out.

Hmmph isn't it rumored that apple will be selling and activating I phones directly on any network soon... so in contrast couldn't Google buy spectrum or rent it and perhaps become their own carrier.
I may be in over my head here but wouldn't that be the obvious thing for Google to do, I mean the gs3 isn't getting jellybean in the us till next year, come on man the international gs3 is getting it within the next month or so. This carrier upgrade process is bs. All things considered they won't even support most android phones for past a year anyways, especially if they don't live up to their audacious expectations.

I am way more worried about Apple and Facebook collecting every single thing you do rather than Google.

Idk. I like the fact that Google isn't so damn protective over their stuff. I like how google goes from manufacturer to manufacturer producing the goods. With just one company, that'd be plain and boring.

Plus, some manufacturers produce better hardware than others.. I think Google should just do Google.

What do you mean? You can pay full price and take it to any carrier it can work on and you can do that today.
