Google Nexus 6 Full brightness

Re: Full brightness

It may be totally unrelated, but in the past when I've first started up Nexus phones for the first time, the auto-brightness is enabled by default. The phones didn't seem to do a good job at adjusting the brightness accordingly. Inside my house, during the day, it would be way too dim, and as soon as I disabled the auto-brightness, the display changes dramatically.

In a bright well-lit store, you would think that the auto brightness would adjust and display a brighter screen, but it doesn't always do this, that's why I hardly use it. The only Android phone I remember doing auto-brightness well was the HTC One M7.

When I played with the note 4 in Best Buy, the brightness was cranked all the way up and auto-brightness was off. The Nexus 6 I played with in T-mobile was dim, and I don't remember seeing a check mark by the brightness adjustment slider to disable it. If you have to go into settings to disable adaptive display, that maybe the issue. I'm not sure.

Re: Full brightness

I put it up to about 80 percent during movies on my Note 4... Otherwise it's like 30 to 40.

Re: Full brightness

I'm happy to report that the one I received today, has a much brighter, better display that the one I played in the Tmobile store Saturday.

So relieved!

At 50% brightness:

Re: Full brightness

Did you turn off the adaptive brightness when you placed the slider to max brightness?

Did not know about it till I got back and read the post. So it will be a good idea to go back and test again and re shoot those pictures.

What widget and icon pack/theme is that if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Full brightness

While on reddit someone posted some screen brightness comparisons so I thought I'll share them.
"This is a brightness comparison of the Nexus 6 versus a Note 3 and a Galaxy S 4. I put each phone at 100%, 50%, and 0% brightness."

I have adaptive on and between 60 - 70% and it's freaking bright... Even in direct sunlight.... Had no issues while out in the yard today letting my dogs out... It wasn't until I came back in I thought about it and people being concerned with how it would do in direct sunlight and it was a clear and very sunny day in Dallas today.... I switched to a brighter background too and it's even more rich and bright... I can say it was way brighter than the Demo I played with but I didn't mess with the brightness settings when I did..

I'd say it's fine. Not blindingly bright, but sufficient. Watching movies in bed is a real pleasure with this screen!

Actually don't find it that loud. Had to keep it above 70% volume to understand the dialog. I wish 50% was understandable. M8 better.

Well there is the catch.... at full volume mine is freaking LOUD...... VERY LOUD!!!! once you get below 70 or 60% volume it might as well not even have those levels... It's like it's super loud or mute.... Doesn't seem to really be much middle ground.....

That's true. 100% is very loud. 90% is about half that. It's weird. You're basically always between 70% and 100%. Below 70% is inaudible.

That sounds about right.... I'll have to test it again tonight but 80, 90 and 100 are pretty loud and clear.... once you start getting below that (at least when watching video's.. The alarm is pretty loud at 30% volume) you need to be in a quiet room or paying attention... Between my dogs and two daughters I need that full volume to hear anything anyway..... or go back to headphones like I use to do with my N5......

So far I'm loving the screen. It pretty viewable in sunlight also to my surprise.

Changed screen to adaptive at 50%. It's fine for inside or normal outside use.
