Will the Nexus 6 have a Notification LED? I've never had a phone that didn't have that and thought I'd ask. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Re: Notification LED

It will have one. It just hasn't been shown yet. I'm willing to bet that it will be on the bottom like the previous nexus phones.

Its sounding very much like it won't have a notification LED at all.

In all fairness the bottom led on the nexus 5 is pretty close to not having one at all.

I use mine all the time. Not having one is a worse idea

Re: Notification LED

LOL apparently you are blind. The LED combined with LIghtflow and don't have to pickup my phone at work every time I receive a notification of a message since I can customize the LED you can't see. I have to turn my phone screen down at night or the darn LED will wake me up. It's that bright.

Yep. Moto/google should have put one in If they did not and allow people to enable it if they wanted to.

Re: Notification LED

It sounds like the AMOLED screen will show notifications instead of having the separate LED (similar to the Moto X). The functionality has been built into android lollipop and is far to superior than a simple color LED.

Except it's not superior. You have to be looking directly at the screen to tell what's going on. Led you can be anywhere in the room and know what's going on when you setup stuff correctly.

Re: Notification LED

Active notifications are limited to the Motorola branded phones. This will have an LED notification light. It's just a matter of whether it will be on the top or bottom. Just because Google has yet to mention a notification light doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Notification lights on devices tend to be a given (except for Motorola devices).

ok, and it is a motorola device. also, there was someone who had a test device answering questions about the phone, and he said there is no led.

Re: Notification LED

Not sure about an LED, but I would lean toward no. Here are the facts about ambient notifications. Personally I have not missed an LED or Lightflow since getting the Active Display with my Maxx. YMMV

Ambient Display
The Nexus 6's Ambient Display feature, mentioned in passing in the Play Store listing for the device, can be found under Settings > Display. When enabled, it wakes the display briefly when a notification arrives, or when the phone is picked up. From there, you can tap the display to go to the regular lock screen. Since the Nexus 4 lacks the required motion coprocessors though, Ambient Display only works when notifications first arrive. The obvious comparison here is Motorola's Moto Display — formerly Active Display — which serves a similar function on the Moto X.

Re: Notification LED

Briefly waking the phone for a notification is way inferior to having an LED that remains blinking until you check the notification. I sure hope there is an easy way to have notifications remain visible at all time until you check them otherwise it is pretty pointless if they only "briefly" notify you.

I did use an app called NoLED on my old Nexus S and it was really cool. Notifications would light up a little icon that would float around the screen. I am not sure that app is updated any longer though. Hopefully if the N6 doesn't have a notification light another app similar to NoLED is or becomes available.

Do you have a Moto X? In my opinion LED notifications are vastly inferior to Motorola's Active Display. Of course, I had to adapt to it and, of course, your mileage may vary. For me, Active Display (or Moto Display or whatever it's called now) all the way!

Re: Notification LED

I'll take the far superior Active Display that actually tells you stuff over a notification light any day.

Re: Notification LED

Seems to not have an LED notification light. I can see why they didn't include one since they are pushing the "ambient display" and active type notifications that take advantage of the amoled screen.

Re: Notification LED

By the way. I emailed the dev of lightflow, which I have been using for years asking

"Hello. I am wondering if there are any plans to incorporate notifications for devices that don't have LEDs? Like the Nexus 6. I am going to go crazy without lightflow and no LED light. Something simple like flashing colors on the screen in place of led? If not I would like to suggest that as a feature :).

Thanks for your time."

His response was "Hi
It's something I'm planning to work on as soon as the lollipop release of lightflow is out (should be in the next few days) as I'm keen to get a nexus 6 but will also miss the led!

Cheers, Andrew"

So there is this to be hopefully for. Not sure if it will be different than the other apps that act like active display, but we shall see.

I used to love having an LED notification too but the more I think about it, the less I have been using it lately. I seem to always have some sort of notification. So I'm always turning my screen on to check anyways. Looking forward to ambient display.

From the reviews I read I didn't see mention of an LED notification light. It's been 'replaced' by the ambient display, but I really don't see how they are similar in anyway. An LED blinks constantly until you check the message and ambient display will just show an incoming message on the lock screen and then go away. Am I right about this?
