Google Nexus 6 Why are the carriers so clueless?

Re: Why are the carriers so clueless?

I talked to verizon employee, he said they were def getting in stores to sell. but no release date. or any info has come across. tmo has just told me to sign up for email garbage on info. horrible way to launch a phone that so many want.

Re: Why are the carriers so clueless?

The size paired with stock android is exactly what I was looking for in a phone... I don't talk on the phone much... I stream a lot of video and use the internet a lot so this is perfect for me.... I can go without my Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 and just have the one device... But I understand the size isn't perfect for everyone...

Look forward to picking one up..

I'm not sure what provider you are on, but did you consider the Droid Turbo?

I use T-Mobile for now... I didn't even consider the Droid Turbo... I want the bigger device.... I passed on the Note 3 and 4 waiting on a Nexus like this..

If you passed in Note series, you're really looking to step it up.

I passed on the Note 3 because I never liked Touchwiz... I went with the Nexus 5 instead... I use to root and run custom ROM on my HTC EVO and Galaxy S3 and I just didn't want to deal with Rooting and flipping ROM's on the Note 3.... but size wise I loved it... would have got the Oneplus had they not made it so hard to get an invite out the gate.. by the time I could get an invite the Nexus 6 rumors were swirling around so I decided to wait it out..

I don't root because of a bad experience. I stick with stock. Had the OnePlus, but got rid of it because it lacked support and didn't want the headache of shipping the device. Too time consuming.

Never had a bad experience rooting... Just found it took up more time and effort than it was really worth... I was rooted on two devices over about 4 years.... Why I'd like to just stay stock Android.... I was on Sprint for a long time (15+ years) so the Nexus 5 worked great... and then since I was out of contract I ended up taking it to T-Mobile and it's a lot cheaper and much better service (as long as I stay in the major metro area I live in.... the in between markets is questionable with T-Mobile vs Sprint.. or Verizon.. I had a Verizon work phone for years.. They are way better but way more expensive too)

Re: Why are the carriers so clueless?

Did you think they would be like Lily Adams, the att rep on the TV commercials?

Att does not tell their reps anything. But in all honestly have you seen many if any nexus devices in the wild. I have seen one in 4 years.

I think I saw 2 Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) and one Sprint Nexus S. Never ever seen anyone with a N4 or N5 yet.

Last Wednesday I saw two N5s at the same table in a pub. Granted it was an mixer for an IT recruiting firm so the scales were tilted a bit in the favor of unique devices.

A bit? And only two? Lol!

Re: Why are the carriers so clueless?

I bought an LG G# from t-mobile last week because I had to have a device ASAP and the second sales rep I talked to way extremely knowledgeable. I'm thinking that I will be taking the $50 hit to return this phone and get the nexus 6. Until they have hardware in the store I don't expect reps to know anything. that is why I come to these forums.

Re: Why are the carriers so clueless?

I worked at Verizon for three years and unless it was a major release we never got training on individual phone models. We might be asked to take a 15 minute video on the very basic features and nothing else. We were expected to pretty much learn on the fly with whatever training docs were available which only get release after the phone is out. I had to take plenty of support calls for phones I've never held.

Re: Why are the carriers so clueless?

Actually sales in carrier stores is far from minimum wage. I was browsing monster and noticed base pay was around $40,000 and you get commission

That rings true. On my one trip to a carrier store in the last few years (to get a sim for my N5) the guy I dealt with was clearly not minimum wage.

But I'd still rather shop online and save the time that it takes to go to a carrier store.

Re: Why are the carriers so clueless?

They get "trained" when they get new products. They aren't in corporate meetings, and they don't leave work to do homework for their minimum wage job, so they don't usually know things in advance. Now and then you run into people working who happen to be phone enthusiasts, but it isn't the norm.

They are a week away from getting them. What use is it getting "trained" on a product when it's out on the floor. There's not many jobs where you get trained five minutes before you start doing something on your own.

And as for homework? As a salesperson, I'm sure they get commission. Is it not their job to KNOW their products? Regardless if it's an uncommon Nexus, or overhyped iPhone.

I have Verizon for work and T-Mobile for personal. I'm using the Z3 right now and really like the phone. Just wished they had the white version. The battery life is pretty good. I use a iPhone 6 Plus for my full time job and a Note 4 for basketball coaching.

Yeah I use to have iPhone 5 on Verizon for work...... I use to forward the number to my personal phone and just kept it plugged up in the car or at my desk... Used it to check my email and that was about it.. Hated having to keep up with two devices... but Verizon coverage is a lot better... If they offered a great prepaid discount plan if I bought my phone I'd at least give them a chance... Hard to beat this $30 a month plan I use with T-Mobile.. I can survive on the 100 minutes a month of talk with that plan.. I only average 60 - 80 a month so I've been saving almost $50 a month vs what I was paying for a single line with Sprint..

In the last year alone I've saved almost as much as what a Nexus 6 will cost me outright.....

Re: Why are the carriers so clueless?

Retail employees are the lowest level employees for a carrier. The lowest level employees will be the last employees given information. Particularly information the carrier may not want public yet or involving information that may not be 100% finalized.
