Google Nexus 6P Car Mount/Dock

Re: Car Mount/Dock

No matter how I position the bottom piece, the side does hit the volume button and I haven't seen it change from putting it into the holder. Right now, at the highest position for the bottom piece, it hits the volume down. At the lowest position, it hits the power button. But I haven't seen any issues with it. If there is an issue then I can keep it at the highest position then make a cut out for it

That's why I really liked the Seidio Surface case for my Nexus 6; it has a cutout for the buttons, leaving them recessed below the surface. You can clamp directly over them without triggering them.

I'm hoping Seidio releases a Nexus 6P case soon. :)

Re: Car Mount/Dock

Does this clamp onto the power or volume keys?

This is the one I'm currently using but replacing with a CD slot holder (I just like the location of the CD tray better for a phone in my truck) and yes it covers the buttons but it doesn't press them when I mount it or drive. I can also reach around the back easily enough to activate the fingerprint reader if needed. Volume is operated by my trucks entertainment system volume control knob not the phone when it's mounted. I've been using this same muont for 2 years and had it in 2 different vehicles and it still works like a champ. Just like the location of my new one better, that's the only reason I'm replacing it.

Re: Car Mount/Dock

I posted this in another thread about armband mounts. I've been using the Quadlock mounts on my phones since the Galaxy S3 and it's been great. It's a bit pricey but, you can use the mounts for any phones / devices. The disk sticks onto the back of any smooth surface and grabs hold. You then can twist the device into the mount and twist to lock. Your phone can be mounted Landscape or portrait depending on how you twist it in. When you upgrade your phone, just purchase another universal disk for $15 and reuse all the monts. It doesn't block anything and there are no worries about the clamps coming into contact with the puttons of the phone. Plus, you can still get to the finger print scanner on the back of the phone where as the clamp style ones will block it.

I use it on my bike and my car. I'm about to get an armband mount as well for when I walk/hike. You can use the mounts for GoPros as well.

Re: Car Mount/Dock

Will it work on the aluminum body of the 6P naked, without a case and the metal plate?

I don't think aluminum is magnetic? So no it won't work without the plate

Thanks. I guess my question should have been, is the Nexus 6P's body made out of aluminum?

I use the Anker CD slot one.

Amazon.com: Anker CD Slot Mount Car Mount Phone Holder for iPhone, iPod, Samsung, LG, Nexus, HTC, Motorola, Sony and Other Smartphones and MP3 Players (Black): Cell Phones & Accessories

It works for me, and I'll keep it since I already bought it. But, it's not ideal. The side clamps just narrowly don't touch the bottom volume button, but it's hard to turn the volume down because it's so close. Also, the charging hole is semi-covered. If you plug your phone into the stock charger first and then put it in the clamp, it'll work. If you have the phone in the clamp and then try to put the charger in, it won't fit.

But, I bought some MicroUSB to USB Type C converters that are really narrow and they go right in without having to remove it from the clamp.

Do you have either Bluetooth or a car audio jack in your vehicle? If so, you can remedy your volume button issue because sound will be controlled through your car's volume knob instead

I do. I only ever use the car mount when I'm using my phone as a GPS and prefer to have the sound come from the phone and not interrupt my radio. I don't use my phone for music.

It's not a big deal to me, but I just wanted to make everyone else aware of some of the issues (or non-issues if you use your phone differently than me in the car) for this dock.

Re: Car Mount/Dock

I used ProClip with my OnePlus One... great mount, and you can easily swap out the faces when you change phones... since the bracket that mounts to the dash is a separate piece.

I'll be using one with my 6P as well. They are still working on a mount for the 6P but they have a mailing list you can sign up on to be notified when it's released. I assume it'll be here in the next couple of weeks.

Company is ProClipUSA dot com.

I can't post URLs yet since I'm still under 10 posts.

Re: Car Mount/Dock

I've had pretty good luck with this one: Koomus CD-Eco Universal CD Slot Smartphone Car Mount Holder Cradle for Samsung Galaxy S5 S4 S3 Galaxy Note 3 Note 2 iPhone 6 6+ 5S 5C 5 4S 4 iPod Touch (can't post links yet...)

The phone has to be mounted high enough in order to not push the buttons (I use the phone without a case).

I'm just using their large universal mount with my 6P, I don't see any real advantage with waiting for a specific 6P mount, particularly since I am using a case. The iPhone 6 Plus mounts also work well, since the 6P is the exact same width.

Re: Car Mount/Dock

FYI...

ProClip USA has launched their 6P mount for pre-order with a $5 discount (normally $39.99)...

And use Discount code "Saveten" to save an additional 10%

My final price at checkout was $31.49 (I already have the dash mount, and only needed the bracket).

Re: Car Mount/Dock

I'd like this magnetic mount as well but I'm concerned the metal plate wont fit in-between my 6P and my Spigen Rugged Armor case. I don't want to have the metal plate on the outside of the case. Can you give me any insight please and thank you?

I got one of these and is awesome.

I don't have that same case, but I do know that the plate is pretty slim and that others have put it on the inside of their cases with no issues.

I personally put mine on the outside. My case has weird grooves on the inside so I was worried about the plate sticking.

I use the Quad Lock as well just put it on a case and you are ready to go. Get a new phone just change the case and fitting. I went from a Droid Turbo to the 6P and used both with the same mount in both my car and on my bike. Great concept.
