Google Nexus 6P Doze...unbelievable

Re: Doze...unbelievable

You must have your iPhone off or something. My fiancee has a 6+ and forgets to plug it in overnight sometimes and does not have zero battery drain on standby. Typically 3-5% over eight hours.

That 11 hours I mentioned wasn't even with my 6S+ it was with my 5S and I rarely ever turn my phones off.

Re: Doze...unbelievable

My first full day with the 6P was yesterday and the battery life was not impressing me at all. I was expecting more out of the doze feature but was losing three to four percent per hour with no activity. I did a reboot and gave it a full charge before bed last night so I could unplug it at 100 and let it sit over night. I woke up 6 hours later to a 98% full battery. Whatever the initial issue was, it's fine now. Just left it alone for an hour this afternoon and the battery didn't budge then either. Very happy.

If your old 5S was anything like my girlfriend's old 5S, and my current iPod Touch, it will say it's at 100% charged even when it isn't, and then all of a sudden I see very rapid battery drain, or find out it's almost dead, or watch it drop from 80% to 30% in 10 seconds while I'm using it. Seems to be an issue where the phone can't properly read the battery percentage, or maybe the battery was just old I have no idea. Anyway, I simply could not trust the battery %. Not saying this is what was happening to you or not, but it seems to be a fairly common issue with Apple products. My iPod still reports 100% charge until it dies.

Re: Doze...unbelievable

Anyone having an issue with Wifi not allowing doze to kick in?
Running the N6, so could be different, but after the measly 6 hours of sleep I got last night my battery had dropped 1%, with both bluetooth on (but not connected to anything) and WiFi on and connected (to a strong signal).

Re: Doze...unbelievable

The battery life CRUSHES what I was getting on my S6 edge, but thats not saying much.

Re: Doze...unbelievable

Anyone having an issue with Wifi not allowing doze to kick in? Whenever I'm connected to wifi doze won't activate, I turned off wifi on my phone last night and doze finally kicked in, lost only 2% overnight. Otherwise I'm losing 8-10% overnight. This is especially frustrating at work, as my phone sits on my desk for most of the day but due to terrible reception I'm on wifi the entire time. My SOT has also been really bad, around 2-2.5 hours.

Wifi scanning is off, bluetooth is off, location is off, google now always listening is off.

Settings - > wifi - > advanced, set "keep wifi on during sleep" to "never"

Re: Doze...unbelievable

Wait, did I get this right? Wifi has to be off for doze to kick in? What's the point behind this, why would I ever want to disable WiFi on my phone when I'm at home? Regardless of how good or bad my cell signal is but disabling WiFi during sleep would result in significantly higher cellular data usage, won't it?

Re: Doze...unbelievable

Maybe I should clarify: I'm not talking about disabling it manually each time but rather the WiFi during sleep setting that seems to have to be set to WiFi off during sleep. The setting that pseudoware is referring to above my post.

I have 'Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep' set to Always and Doze is still working fine for me.

Clarification: I do lose a bit more than just 1% overnight with this setting (but still well under 10%), but it is minimal drain compared to my other phones with similar settings, so I have no worries keeping this set to Always on.

Doze WAS working for me the first few days but lately I have not been seeing Doze kick in.

Example: last night I took some cold medicine and forgot to plug in phone. It was around 27%. Woke up during the night to check the time and phone was dead.

I am assuming it is some app that is causing the problem. Any way (without root) to find out what's keeping a phone from starting the Doze mode? All the apps I've found not they need root since 4.4.

Doze didn't kick in for me for the first time yesterday. Lost 12% overnight with a slow but steady curve on the battery graph, instead of the usual flat line and 2-3% loss overnight. No idea what kept it awake. Today on my desk at work I can already see it working properly again. For now I'll chalk up it as a one-time thing since Doze has been perfect both before and after that event. Nothing unusual on the battery list, just Wifi, Google Play Services, etc.

I am in the same boat -- Doze works fine with wifi on and I have it set to stay on "Always" when sleeping.

Example below from the other day.

Coming from a galaxy s3 running 4.4.2 to the 6p with marshmallow has been a great improvement.

Well this is unfortunately Day 2 of Doze not working for me overnight. What used to be a flat line for 8-9 hours is now a slowly declining one with a few sharp drops. Before I was losing 2-3% over an 8-10 hour sleep, now I am losing 8-9%. Not the end of the world, but 3-4 times worse than I was getting before with the same phone, so it's noteworthy. No changes whatsoever to the phone and that is a significant drop. The activity charts suggest that Doze is working (it turns WiFi off and shows the phone not "awake" except at a couple tiny intervals to grab notifications as it should), but the battery graph and my loss of battery percentage tells a different story. I have a replacement unit coming today or tomorrow due to the yellow/pink screen issues, so we'll see if it's any better.

Doze turns off WiFi as it is, so it makes no difference if you leave it on or off.

Anyone else figured out what was keeping their phone out of Doze yet?

It shouldn't if you have "Keep wifi on during sleep" set to always. Mine stays on through Doze.

Mine is set to that, and Doze turns it off for most of the "Doze" period. For example between 12AM and 7AM last night while I was sleeping, my WiFi shows that it was completely off. Exact same thing the night before. Under the battery graph where it shows you what is active over what time period, WiFi is completely blank over long sleeps.

Not that it matters though, I'm not losing 8% instead of 2% over night with no other changes, so there is a problem with my phone somewhere.

I guess I could try disabling "leave wifi on during sleep" but since it's doing that already, I'm not sure what difference it would make.

Very odd. As you can see (below) mine stays active even during doze times.

Mine does that too during the day. I just left my phone on my desk for 2 hours straight while I was in a meeting, and WiFi stayed on according to the data below the graph (even though WiFi was disabled on my phone). Only at night, it turns off - I wonder if it is programmed to do so at night. I also have a do not disturb schedule set from 12AM to 7AM...by the graphs it looks like that is the same period my WiFi is turning off - maybe that has something to do with it?

Another interesting observation: I have WiFi disabled during the day at work, and it still says it's on according to the battery graphs. But, when WiFi is actually turned on, and set to "always on", over night and/or during my DND schedule, it turns off.

Only thing I can think of is since I am using location services in battery saving mode, it is still trying to use the WiFi for positioning. That's a bit of a stretch though if WiFi is completely disabled.
