Google Nexus 9 Flex in the back of the tablet?

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

As said earlier I'm not having that issue, mine sits flush, sounds like you got a bad unit to be honest

That's good to hear. Maybe the pre-production models that went out to reviewers have the issue. Maybe some got to the retail units as well, but I hope it's not in my unit when I receive it.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

Same issue here my nexus 9 creaks when I press it and I don't even press it hard just grabbing it I can feel it flexing and creaking. I made a video put the volume high so you can hear it, it only happens in the right side.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

I have the same issue with mine. It's quite disappointing. It kind of sucks sitting here asking myself if this is something I can live with. I hope I have a defective model and will be able to return it for one that is solid. I can't imagine that this kind of flex would be deemed acceptable from a planned build quality standpoint. I can't switch my grip on it without feeling the back flex.

If you have the same issue please chime in. Is this isolated to just a couple of us?

Once I heard people talking about this I pressed on mine. I can feel a little give if I really press hard (which I would never normally do) but I certainly don't feel it give when I shift my hand. I think you must have a bad unit my friend.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

He barely looks like he's touching the back of the N9 in the GIF.
That really is something that would drive me insane. I need my devices to be structurally solid for some reason.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

Yeah I'm barely pressing on it, just from picking up from the table it makes that sound.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

I'm glad to hear everyone is not having this issue. Perhaps a few of us got 9's without adhesive to hold the back in place properly? Not sure of the exact cause but my issue is very similar to the video posted. Very little pressure results in quite a bit of movement. Sometimes with creaking sounds as well. I'm not sure I'd press on your 9 to investigate. I could tell something was off the first time I picked it up.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

I'm not having this issue at all... My Lunar White model is completely firm. I've been pressing on the back every time I read one of these posts thinking am I crazy? No give whatsoever... My 2012 N7 had a loose screen and I went right to the dedicated Nexus 7 forums and complained about it so ppl would know about it. Its good that prospective buyers be informed but I feel the same responsibility to weigh in when everything is fine. And so I am... Aside from a nook comparability problem with 5.0 everything is fine with my N9... Even the battery life which I'm hearing a lot of complaints about, is not an issue on my unit. Been running this thing intensely for a day now and I'm still at 60%... But to answer the question this thread asks... No. No flex here.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

I have my shiny new Nexus 9 that I picked up from Best Buy about an hour ago. Anybody else with a Nexus 9 yet notice that there is some give in the back? There is a noticeable amount of flex on the back of my device. By this, I mean I can press the back and there is some give before it presses against what I presume to be the battery.

Need to figure out if I should try to swap this thing out.

There's a noticeable flex on the door panels of high end cars too. There's nothing wrong with a little flex in a plastic device or item.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

My n7 2013 has no hardware problems :) I'll be sticking with this thing until it gets slow as hell with future versions of Android

Silly comparison. A $400 tablet should not be flexing at all. Clearly a bad batch of tablets or a major design flaw.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

I notice the gizmodo reviewer noted the same thing I'm seeing. I don't see how they're running around drumming up the premium feel of the tablet with this flex in the back! They (Google, HTC?) could still certainly learn a thing or two from Apple about quality tablet builds at this point, especially now that we're approaching the same price point.

That being said, I probably won't return this. I'm upgrading from a 2013 Nexus 7 that will go to my girlfriend.

Really? What flawless device has Apple put out? Please do tell.

Not a silly comparison. In their respective markets and industries, both are considered "flagships". Being concerned about a slight movement in a large slab of thin plastic is nonsense. I'm not saying the concern isn't valid, but once you realize that it will not affect performance in any way, shape, or form there's no reason to be uneasy. It's plastic and it's thin.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

Lunar White here, no Flex I can find.

I do keep trying like I want to find it too. Weird.

Re: Flex in the back of the tablet?

Sounds like some people have the flex and others do not. Those of you trying to say it is no problem - when I'm holding the tablet in landscape mode (my primary intended use), my fingers are on the back right on the spot of the flex. So as I'm holding it, I feel the thing flexing, pretty much constantly. Maybe you don't find this distracting, but I do. Sounds like a good time for me to consider swapping mine out for one with less flex.

I've got the white one - no flex here. Keep in mind that, just like the nexus 5, the white and black are not made from the same stuff.

The back on my Black Nexus 9 moves in and out in the middle with the slightest touch and there is a noticable bump at the top middle, it feels cheap. I need to return this one (it refuses to update on first start after hours of waiting).. Guess I should wait and pick up a white one...

My black 16 gig n9 also has some flex. But for me it is not that big of a deal. I will be keeping it despite this minor flaw.
