Google Not Backing Up Photos

I have the same issue. It will not back up on wifi only. When I change it over to data, immediately starts backing up. It makes no sense. I've tried it on my work wifi and my home wifi. Nothing. It seems like a screw up with the app.

If I do that, Google Play Services starts to runs like mad in the background and my battery drains super fast. After a short time, I check online to see what got backed up, and still no new photos. No idea what it's doing, but it's definitely not backing up the pictures.

I have been having the same problem. I tried turning on 'backup over cellular data' and it uploaded 2 images but then stalled again. Very annoying.

Same problem for me. I've tried everything. I recently received the Google Photos update and hoped that it would fix the issue but it only changes some of the options like shown in the screenshot that someone provided. Still not backing up.

No idea what changed, but I noticed the last week or so, my photos are backing up again. I didn't really change anything. However, my backup settings screen now looks like the OP's screen, whereas it looked like the screenshot in post #10 by B. Diddy. Maybe there was an update to the app I didn't pay attention to that fixed it. I am not complaining

I just thought to ask you all, do you get a notification every day that your photos have not been backed up? I do get that notification in the notification bar. It says "1375 photos haven't been backed up" or whatever the number is for that day and to review the settings to back up now. Of course, we know the settings are not the issue as we have been through all of that I was just wondering if you all are getting that notification as well. Since I get the notification it makes sense that the app is actually working in some way it is just not backing up the photos.
This phone would be perfect if it had a gallery! It is driving me crazy.

Same issues as OP. Sprint HTC 10

I feel like Google Photos doesn't realize it's on Wi-Fi.

When I try to manually backup a photo (while on WiFi) it gives me a warning about how much data I'm going to use with my cellular network and whether I want to proceed.

Interesting. I just tried that and I got the same message.

My wife's Samsung Galaxy S6 started doing this about a month ago as well. I have to manually back up the each picture via the Google Photos app.

I've tried changing the various settings and nothing works. Doesn't automatically backup over WIFI or LTE. She also gets the notifications that "x amount" of photos could not be backed up.

I have the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and everything is working fine.

I have turned off the auto back up setting so I would stop getting the notifications. I do not understand why they can not fix this issue.

I was having the same problem on my HTC m9. Seems the fix is to enable backup over cellular data. Even though I'm on airplane mode and connected to wifi, for some reason the app didn't register that.

As soon as I enabled over cellular, it started updating (on wifi) perfectly fine, without using any actual data. Very strange bug...

I may try this and see if it works. At least for now I am backing them up to Onedrive. I don't necessarily like Onedrive, but at least it automatically backs up, so for now, it works.

Tried everything on my LG G4 including removing google acct...still not backing up. Won't backup over cellular or wifi. It seems to have stopped for me on June 15

I've done many searches to resolve this issue and every solution that was listed didn't work for me until I tried one thing my colleague mentioned that I should do.

You need to clear the cache of your phone. A lot of solutions for the photo backup mentioned clearing the cache of the Google Play Services or the Photos app, but I had to go straight down to the phone cache. To clear/wipe the cache of your phone, you need to get to the boot menu of your phone:

  1. Power down your phone.
  2. Depending on your brand of phone, you will have to power up your phone while pressing the volume up or down button. You can find out for sure by searching for your phone boot menu procedure online.
  3. Pressing and holding the two/three buttons, your phone will start up in the boot menu.
  4. Go to the option that mentions about wiping the cache. The LG V10 says "Wipe Cache". I cannot say the same for other brand/model phones. This will not remove any programs or make any changes on your phone.
  5. Wait for your phone to reboot and watch the magic happen!

Hopefully this will work for others as well! :D

Mine miraculously just started backing up. I'm not real sure what happened, but I guess I won't question it.
