Did anyone pay for space or sign up for Google One and receive the 100gb space free for three months?

Aye. I'm on the Google 2TB plan. Use about 1TB.

Only back up what's important these days.

Tried quite a few competitors, have to say the Google offering had worked best for me.
I'm using a 2TB backup drive, and it's not enough. :)

Wow. Curious - what do you need so much space for? Do you produce video or something like that?
(you can brush this aside if you don't want to say - just curious)

I'm an amateur photographer.

I have every shot taken by me since the inception of digital stored somewhere.

Have a lot of videos I have made too.

Have backed up most of my historical print media too.

Have it all stored in a few places. Was a pain originally with slow internet etc etc but has got easier.

If I already have Google One (was a long-time Drive subscriber), I should continue to be able to upload my full resolution photos/videos into Google Photos, right? I have been so used to the full resolution uploads to photos with my Nexus devices (5/5X/6P), and Pixel 2 XL, that I hadn't given it much thought until now.

I think your drive space is all that matters. Your photos/videos uploaded in full resolution will now use that space. You will be able to do it as long as you have space. For example, I purchased 100GB (tier 1) a long time ago. I haven't changed anything in my Google One account now that I have a Pixel 4. It's now using my Google drive for photos/videos from the Pixel 4. I don't anticipate having to upgrade my space anytime soon, I have 30GB free right now.

If you don't want to use drive space, you have to drop to high quality.

^^^Ah, cool! I'm at the 300 GB tier (200 GB + 100 GB bonus from Pixelbook), and only used 30 GB so far.

I'm on the 200 GB plan, but should have been on the 2 TB plan at least for this month so that I could have got the 10% Google store credit when I bought the pixel 4 instead of 3 % for the 200 GB. And reverted back to 200 GB after a month. Missed doing that

I did have a hiccup when I switched phones. I had backed up Google One on the old phone just before the switch. For some reason, images and text from my WhatsApp conversations with my family overseas is missing about a week's worth. Everything else went over OK, so it's odd.

Google one/Google backup isn't backing up your WhatsApp data/conversations. That's separate and Whatsapp has its own backup, probably the backup setting on your WhatsApp was weekly and when you set up Whatsapp on your new phone and restored the chats during WhatsApp setup it didn't have the latest backup but had up to one week before.

Makes sense. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't get that transferred over, my father-in-law was on a "I need to vent about something..." almost daily that week. :p
