Google Pay is awesome

And secure :D.

Yeah for sure. Making a virtual card # so my own isn't put out there is awesome. I definitely see myself using it more.

I've been a stubborn cash guy hold out but I'm making baby steps lol

Understandable. I believe in cash or credit -- never debit. Credit is way easier to have fraud charges removed whereas debit is possible just more pain (imo) :P.

I still carry cash and cards here in the UK for the odd times that contactless isn't available.

Can't say I've had that issue with my debit card, then again my bank is pretty hot on potentially fraudulent activity.

You also aren't in the US ;).

Either way -- why would I even go down the route that could give me issues? If they have my debit card and use it then that is money taken directly out of my account. If i use credit -- well -- that is just off a credit limit. No harm no foul. No real $$ for them or loss for me.

Well I also have a credit card but don't use it much, I do agree that getting charges reversed on a credit card is much easier. I even managed to add the credit card to Google Pay.

The other reason to not use debit, is if there is fraud and you don't notice it quickly enough, in addition to the hassle of reversing charges, you may have checks/payments bouncing if the fraud is large enough.

Then, you not only have to deal with the bank, but also with the bouncing fees etc.

Depends on where you are from as my bank is quick to pick up on fraud, a good example is the purchase of my Surface Pro 4 which was blocked by the bank initially until they called me a few minutes later to confirm that it was me spending the money. I only use the debit card when I can't use Google Pay anyway and only use the credit card for big purchases.

I had to deal with using my banks app since they don't support Google pay, wish they did. It's actually not too bad, I just unlock and tap the shortcut...I'm content with the setup but wish Google pay worked

One thing about using Google Pay which is not so nice, is having to unlock the phone first.

Apple did it correctly with ApplePay. With an iPhone, you don't have to unlock the phone first, the phone will automatically wake up when it detects the NFC and then you either use TouchID or FaceID to authenticate who you are and then it works.

GP does the reverse. You have to unlock the phone first and then put it near the NFC payment device.

Is Google Pay good enough to not need to carry credit cards?

Yesterday it worked for 4 out of 5 transactions, so I recommend to still bring your credit card along just in case. Also, when you run out of battery it will be a problem.

I don't see a difference in the end result. Unlocking your phone before or after is really a non-event unless you can point out advantages we are not aware of.

Don't use Google Pay. Credit card is carried in front pocket with cash and easily accessible. Use very little cash anymore, everything goes on CC.

Saw an article recently where some states are going to get away from the traditional drivers licence and have the licence on the phone. Pretty soon all we'll need is our phones, no cash, no licence, no nuttin'.

The times they are a changin'

That would be a really nice feature to have on Google Pay. Won't be surprised if Apple fans would get mad at Google for "copying" it though...

As far as convenience you're not missing a lot. It's bit more convenient if you have your phone in hand or easily accessible. Slightly more convenient than digging out your wallet and credit card.

For my iPhone w/ Apple Watch it is super convenient (someone w/ Google Play on their watch would have similar results). I simply just order then double click the button on my wrist, tap, and done. No wallet, dig card, swipe or plug in, wait, etc.

Love it when going to Firehouse subs :D.

Unlocking before in the UK let's you spend over the £30 contactless limit, unless the shop limits it.
