Google Pay terminal asks for PIN??

My wife and I both use Google Pay, mostly at grocery stores, mostly at Stop & Shop with a few other grocery stores thrown into the mix occasionally.

Currently, both of our Google Pay accounts are linked to *my* Bank of America Visa card. Previously, they were both linked to *my* Discover card, but that's an entirely different problem ( https://forums.androidcentral.com/android-pay/951213-google-pay-discover-card-anyone.html ).

So, when I use Google Pay at Stop & Shop, I tap my phone to the terminal, it asks me to verify the payment amount, and that's pretty much it. Done.

My wife does the exact same thing and Google Pay pops up on her phone and asks her to enter a PIN. What PIN? I have no idea what it is asking for, nor why. Her Google Pay account is setup identically to mine.

This never happened when Discover was our default card, but I can't say for sure that it is directly related to the change to the Visa card.

I get that at some supermarkets. Mine is tied to a debit card, so a PIN requirement isn't a surprise. Odd that it is prompting when using a credit card. Is there a choice to select debit or credit when paying, or is it the same option?

I bet it has something to do with your wife’s phone settings. Check to see if the security options for her Android are set the same way as yours. I thought there was something wrong with my Apple Wallet because it asked me to put in the security code twice. Turns out, for Iphone you can’t switch off these extra security steps. I read at https://www.creative.onl/startupsgeek/pdq-machine-hire/ that different PDQ require different levels of security from banks.
