Google Pixel 2 Camera Shots! Show Us Your Pictures

Processing has become part and parcel of digital photography, so you really have to include that when comparing camera experiences. The lens and camera module itself are still important, of course, but in the end, it's the whole package that matters.

Your point is well taken -- if the Pixel didn't have its great processing, then images would probably be much more mediocre. But then it wouldn't be a Pixel!;)
I agree.

Sure, but that's the direction mobile photography is going -- computational photography. It allows for pretty awesome images with off-the-shelf camera modules, which in turn can help reduce the parts cost of a phone. As long as the processing isn't causing distorted or false images, one could argue that there is no difference. Of course, I understand that camera purists would much prefer to see excellent images on the strength of the lens and sensor themselves.

Yeah some people like to shoot raw too but who has the time to process every picture they keep,? The end result is what matters and I have to work hard to take a bad picture with the Pixel.

So my point is that the software processing matters. You can't just blindly say something is better than the other when so much work is being done in the background. That's all I'm saying. Like I said it is really good but I'm just trying to make a point as to the "why" before people get carried away. Don't be so defensive about it.

I most certainly can! I don't understand your argument at all! The end product is all that matters. The photo is all that matters.

To be fair.. if the camera you liked (Sony in this case) had amazing pictures from software would you be saying the same thing you are now? Or are you saying it because Sony is lacking in this department?

The end result usually is all anyone ever cares about. That's why things like Photoshop, Light room, etc. exist. The end photo is what people want for their ads and other things... People don't think about what it took to get there.

Just relax guys. Y'all are responding if what I said is not true. To be clear, HDR+ is the default mode but it is by no means an auto mode. So if the Sony camera had HDR+ and the Pixel 2 didn't, I would be saying the same thing. Whether or not you guys want to admit or not, but the software is an advantage over phones without it and that's no fault to the Pixel but that's the reality. Like I said just try it for yourselves. Take some pictures with HDR+ off and then you can really realize how much work is being done in the background. I'm not faulting the results or the camera I'm just saying that software IS a clear advantage. Obviously I struck a tender nerve on here so I'll leave it alone. I don't understand why y'all are so defensive about it as I did praise the results. And I do use HDR+ on my V20 and the software is just amazing. Much better than what LG or anyone else does. Just breathe a little.

Admit it or not? Every post has admitted it.

It just seems that the Pixel has this advantage and you want us to disable the advantage to dumb it down to the camera that has the sucky software. Why? Why would we intentionally gimp it.. why would we do such a thing because other cameras and manufacturers can't figure out how to have software that doesn't suck?

That's like saying hey that car is fast but try taking out the turbo and it'll be like a Civic!... Sure.. but.. why would you gimp the car from what it IS to make it what it's not ?

Also let's drop the "breathe a little" stuff .. you act like us disagreeing is us flipping out and cussing you out. That isn't happening. We're having a discussion and simply disagreeing.

Fair.

Just a simple point. If one camera has auto and then the other camera has HDR+ it's not really a fair comparison. If both are taken with some kind of HDR+ or HDR mode then it's a more fair comparison. That's all I was trying to say. Same camera. One auto. One with HDR+. You're gonna tell me that's a fair comparison? But this is my last post on the subject. I really enjoy the pictures in this thread and I'm not here to start any negativity.

You are simply not making sense. At all.

First, we have to establish, the end result is all that matters. Period. All anyone cares about is the way their pics look. Is it a drawback that other manufacturers use 2 lenses? Are you going to post about "...to be fair, they're using 2 lenses, and other guys aren't...) in the Samsung forum?

Your "arguments" are not making any sense.

The way Google arrives at their end result is more advanced than other manufacturers. How is that bad? Why should we consider this fact a drawback?

Ok that's fair.

Preposterous. We were here posting photos from our Pixel 2s, and then YOU came in and started making noises like the Pixel 2 had an unfair advantage... Isn't that the point?

Usain Bolt can run a lot faster than you. Does that mean that if you challenge him to a race he's being unfair?

And, not for nothing, but you did come in and started negativity. That's exactly what you did.

I apologize as that wasn't my intentions. I was wrong.

No but I will be getting the Pixel 3. I use HDR+ as well as manual on my LG V20 and I have high praises for it in the V20 pictures and video thread.

I absolutely will be getting a Pixel 3 too! It would not surprise me at all if we see a dual lens setup in the Pixel 3. That plus Google's advanced computational power would be hard to beat!

Oh no question about it. And I'll have the best of both worlds. The V20 for those days where I want to go out and set up my shots and get creative with manual settings. And the Pixel 3 as my daily driver for just beautiful photos no matter the condition and I can only imagine how much better the portrait mode will be. Its so great for kid portraits already and I'm tempted to get it now just for that but I'm going to wait.Truth is what Google is doing is rivaling what mirrorless cameras and DSLRs are doing and I was just defending the a5000 a little. Just the photographer in me.

I don't even want to fathom how great the Pixel 3 will be. Going to enjoy this phone for the meantime lol.
