An update on my situation, if anybody cares (I doubt it but I'm gonna vent anyway)... I was "assured" my order would be automatically regenerated and that I would receive my device by 10/21, as originally planned, and advised to wait through Friday (72 hours after my original order) to receive my confirmation email. At the end of Friday I still had not received an email and my Synchrony balance had gone back up to it's full amount (indicating that the whole transaction had been cancelled).
Upon calling support again, I was told basically "yeah, sorry, there were some errors, nothing I can do". I asked the rep to reference the notes of my previous calls to see where I was assured my order would be taken care of and she claimed there were no notes (and I know for a fact there had been notes before, as they had referenced them on previous calls). So it seems to me someone lied through their teeth to get me off the phone and then deleted any mention of the conversation... I asked for a supervisor and was told I would get a call within 24 hours. As the devices were selling out left and right, I decided to go ahead and place an order for the one I wanted with a later delivery date, in hopes that they'd be able to push me into the first batch if I at least had an order in. The next day I received an email with a code for a discount on the phone, which is great, but I had already placed the order. I called support YET AGAIN, to ask them to apply the discount, only to be told "sorry, we can't, you have to cancel and reorder, but also don't cancel because you'll get put on the waiting list"(!). On top of that, I was told by Synchrony that it would take ANOTHER 72 hours for my balance to go back to normal if I cancel, which essentially ensures that I'll be on an indefinite waiting list.
This has been the single most infuriating retail experience of my life. I know it's just a phone, but what makes me so angry is the lying, the inability to talk to anyone with any ability to do anything for a customer, and waiting 24-48 hours every time for a response from anyone with any authority. Google is obviously trying to emulate Apple these days, but they're failing miserably on the service front.
