Google Play Music always active

Is this app always active because of the google play music widget on one of my home screens, or is this just a Google quirk?

I disable that app everytime i get a new phone because its a huge battery waster.

Are ya sure? I was sure until somebody pointed it out on this exact forum lol.

Hold your home button. Left button. And see what apps are active. PlayMusic is ALWAYS on for me.

I actually disabled most Google apps, including chrome, map, drive, music, game, plus, Google search.

They don't do anything that I can't do by opening a browser, and do a lot of things in the background killing battery.

It's always running on mine since 2 updates ago of the app. I don't use the widget and even disabled sync for it.

That is so odd. I have the sync for play music on and the widget on my homescreen, but the only time it runs is when I'm actually using the app. As soon as I stop and close the app then it goes away from my running apps list.

I kill the app every hour and it just comes back. I haven't even use the app today and rebooted and cleared the cache partition but it won't stop running. I don't want to get rid of it since I have a bunch of music in it but I also don't want it actively running 24 hours a day. I was hoping the recent update would fix it but no change.

Wow that's weird. Mine also only runs whenever I'm playing music. As soon as I stop playing the music, the app disappears from the running apps list :/

You could use greenify which will shut it down unless you use it

Google Play is always active on my SG Note 2. I try to kill the app constantly but it starts back again. So I know exactly where you're coming from.
