Mine works fine. Is this happening when you are playing stored music on the phone from Google Music or are you streaming it?

If you're streaming it (as a previous poster asked), are you using mobile data or WiFi?
If WiFi, go into the Wireless page, press the Menu button, choose Advanced and be sure it's set to keep wireless alive while the phone is sleeping (can't tell you exactly what the option says since I'm on a different ROM, but you should get the gist of it from my description).

If you have a battery saving app like juice defender, it can turn the data off when the screen is off, therefore stopping the player from going to the next track. I always have to disable juice defender when I want to listen to music because of that.
