This just started happening about 3-4 days ago and I haven't been able to locate a solution.

I've only installed one new app, the IIHF app, but have also uninstalled it w/out change.

I have tried uninstalling to the factory version(no updates), cleared cache and data w/out luck.

It's really starting to annoy me as it will self start when going to my home page, opening emails or other apps.

Any help is HUGELY appreciated.

Do you mean it starts updating apps by itself?

Open the play store app, tap the 3 dots on the upper right, and find the setting for auto update and turn it off. :-)

No. It just starts up on its own with its homepage.

I also get a page that pops up for the top 10 apps.

Completely random for both situations.

That sounds like the prompt to update those 10 apps. Without a screenshot it is hard to say.

I'll ad the screenshot when I get home, but it is either the Google play store home pqge or an ad for stuff I don't want, like single women and dating sites.

Sounds like you downloaded an app that is causing pop-ups. Try un-installing any apps that you installed around the time it started. Or possibly download some kind of virus scan that may detect the adware.

Thanks Brian.

The 2 latest apps installed were the 2014 IIHF(World juniors) app and Instagram.

I deleted both and all seems well, so I'm just trying to install one at a time to see which one it is.

I do have AVG installed and nothing came up with that, but will try a separate scan with each app installed.

So after reinstalling the IIHF app, the problem seems to have returned, so I've uninstalled it again and added Instagram and the problem ,so far seems to have disappeared.

I was wrong, instagram does it too.

Both are now uninstalled, so we'll again wait and see.

That didn't take long, it still happens with both apps uninstalled.

What gives?

When you can post a screen shot it will help show us what you see.

This is the ad. Otherwise the other page is just the Google Play store home page.

I did a google search on "top apps of the day" pop-up and got a few hits about this problem.

This thread from xda recommends installing the Airpush Finder app to locate the culprit. (Airpush is an ad framework.)

Take a look to see if any of the solutions mentioned in the above threads work for you.

So I just wanted to follow up with this.

Here is what else I found out and tried, with success I believe.

Thanks to mikew99 for prompting some more research, but after reading this article:

http://androidforums.com/android-applications/500736-top-app-manger-doing-my-head-in.html

Specifically, jmac1302's reply, I did just that, I deleted mp3 downloader app and all seems to be good now. I can't remember the app that I had and have searched to let you all know, but cannot find it.

Anyways, thanks everyone for your help, I hope this has resolved my problem.
