Google Search App. Opens Google Chrome?

I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S5. I have primarily been an iPhone user up up until now. On my iPhone, when I would open the Google search app. (it's a blue square icon with a white "G"), I would type in a search request, then it would list the different links that were related. Once I selected a link, it would then, of course, open that webpage...and that webpage would open and display *in* the Google search app (no other app. would open).

When I do this on my SGS5, all of this is the same, but, when I select the link I want to open (let's say Kotaku.com), Chrome then opens and displays the page. Why is this? If I wanted to open Chrome to display the page, I would have opened Chrome to begin. And, if this is just "how it works", then is there even a point to having the Google search app.? Maybe just have Google Voice Search and Chrome? It's just odd to me that I would use Google to search for a link in one of their apps., then it opens a second app., Google Chrome, to display the webpage - what Google search can already do.

Please advise and thank you for your help! :)

The Google search app is mainly for voice searching but also those cards. Those cards are the main point to it.. But when you start diving into sites it simply pops open the browser.

I believe iPhone did it differently since they wouldn't allow Google to call open a new app on the system.
