Google Should Update Android Through The Play Store

Am I the only person who thinks this?

I left Android back in the Froyo times with a Droid 2 because I can't stand waiting for updates. Windows Phone 7 speculated that it would eliminate carriers and push the updates through Zune. Lies. I'm back on Android to use the HTC One highlight videos of my family. Android is almost 3 numbers past Froyo, and Google still hasn't pushed OS updates through the Play Store or some other easy FAST interface.

The Nexus line is the only line of android powered devices that will receive prompt updates straight from Google. Other devices are at the mercy of their corresponding OEM and carrier, if applicable. If you want OS updates when they come out, either get a Nexus or use a custom ROM on your device. (The latter may not apply too well, since the HTC One only has nightlies available at the moment.)

Nonetheless, I agree with you. Even with the new features and improved speeds, Android STILL doesn't have a fast way to obtain updates, due to OEM interference with Android.

Oops I accidentally thanked you. Not trying to be mean :)

Nexus...

Seriously though, this Google Play Services allows them to do most of the leg work without doing an OS release. They could use it to push new features to legacy systems and get everyone using a maximum feature set, despite the OEM and carrier interference. That's the best part of I/O this year. They basically made the Android version irrelevant for core systems and the only things that you HAVE to upgrade for are the features that OEM's or carriers include that they won't port back.

If you want that experience you need to quit buying carrier phones and buy google phones. Carriers all make sure the that they can push their bloat and with VZW it is a little different than most of the GSM carrier. VZW also blocks other features and abilities. Just ask anyone who has a Samsung Note 2 or Samsung S3 on VZW. VZW people also get the latest handset last as well. Just as any VZW customer that use a smartphone. The carrier is in control. It sounds as though the same is going on with the windows phones. You might try iphone, I think that the updates on iphone/ipad come from apple store not the carrier I could be wrong never owned one.
