Doubtful. If Google even got close they'd have to do things that would perk the interest of the Feds. Then there's the matter of a desktop client. The only way that this store could reach the level of iTunes is if they had a desktop client alongside a cloud-based or web-based one.

Google will NEVER do a desktop-based client for anything. Google lives on the web, and if you want to get more power you have the Android platform. That is what Google sees as their "desktop". Just use something like doubleTwist and be happy

If they don't do a desktop client they will NEVER be able to challenge iTunes and Apple in any significant way.

BTW, Doubletwist is GARBAGE. Worse than iTunes and definitely worse than Windows Media Player.
