Google to step up smartphone wars with release of own handset

Personally be great to see a Google phone with all the bells and whistles Google wants to throw in it. Hopefully they can maintain control against the carriers apple-style.

I'd love a Pixel phone, but I don't think it's happening this year. There's no new information in that article or anything that indicates there's a reason to think they're going to do anything other than Nexus this year for phones.

Which fails because when they start mandating specs, everything becomes the same nut be together, not the same.

Seriously? You're going to buy into a story from the Telegraph that purports to be based on information from unnamed "sources familiar with the discussions" and some "senior source" whose identity is so hush-hush that we aren't given even the slightest idea of where Senior X may have established this seniority?

I don't believe they even asked anyone at Google a question let alone asked for a response.

They are pushing together several statements and rumors and drawing a conclusion that I don't see as supportable but if there is a real source, then I'd be wrong

A CNET article picked up the story among other sources, and reported that Google reps declined to comment (of course) on such rumors.
