Google update caused rapid battery drain

Yesterday I did an update to several programs including Google and noticed major battery drain. I was not sure which program did it but checked Battery in Settings and saw it was the screen causing the drain. Apparently when the Google program updated, it changed the setting for automatic brightness adjustment to ON. I turned it off and the battery is fine. I keep brightness set to about one quarter to one third brightness. I think the battery life is great and I can easily get thru the day.

You might want to try Velis Auto Brightness. As with many things, it works a lot better than the native Android equivalent. (In my office, which is usually pretty dim, the screen brightness is way down, and I can see the screen easily. In bright sunlight the screen is all the way up, but if I step into shadow it dims a bit. And you can set the curve, so it stays dim until the light sensor is almost overloaded, then it jumps to full, or whatever crazy setup you want. The native auto brightness gives you 2 choice - on or off. Not great for most environments, but better than running the screen at 100% or 20% all the time. A little better. Velis is a LOT better. [Better on the battery too, if you're usually using the phone indoors.])

I have noticed this as well in recent days. The Battery stats do not reveal a smoking gun, just fast discharge. In the past, this has related to poor cell coverage at home, and constant cell signal checking...solved by airplane mode.

Update 3/3/15 Yesterday's stats show rapid battery loss - checking for cell signal while in normal coverage areas.

I'm trying the Velis program and it seems to work well without much drain on the battery. Thanks for the suggestion!
