Has anyone tried Google Video chat with the FFC on the sprint gs3 with the latest update(g8) with GTALK? My video freezes up. The rear camera works. Front facing camera starts to work but freezes.

I tried it for the first time last week using Talk which came preinstalled. Sounds like that's what you're using too. No issues here. The video and audio was clear and with less lag than an average cell-to-cell phone call.

Is the whole app crashing or is it just video feed that stops streaming?

video feed stops.. I can switch back and forth between front and rear facing. Rear facing works but FFC frezes the feed. I dotn think its the camera because i tried Tango and it works just fine.

What carrier device are you using and are you current on all your updates?
I recall it working once bu cant remember when it quit working correctly.
I am and have been stock rooted from day one.

Yes all updates are current. Try this as a test:

Open Talk
Hold home key and remove all.
Hold home key and open task manager.
Go to RAM tab and clear memory.
Now try video chat again.

It could be a system resources issue so it just stops trying to render the live video feed.

I will try your suggestion letter this afternoon.

Interestingly..here is another data point....
I went to the Sprint store to see if their sg3s worked and they called my sg3 over 3g and it worked flawlessly....it even worked better than I have ever seen.the video quality was great. Both front and rear camera worked fine. So I left the store and called my sister who has an s2 and it worked fine...last night I tried it again at my house and sure enough I was having issues with the ffc. Once again.. the rear facing camera worked fine....

I started thinking about router issues. So i explicitly opened up the Google chat ports to but that did not make a difference...

So I am still confused..

My internet connection is fast
20 down and 4up. ping is 20

It still somehow smells like a home router issue.. fyi my router is an e3000.

I will try your suggestion later this evening

So it works just fine on my work network.....it has to be some thing with my router or my isp...

Can someone tell me how you activate a video chat or even just voice chat in gTalk? I read the Help section, but it seems like it's more for the PC side of things, not for mobile phones. Is that the only way to initiate one of these conversations, or am I missing something somewhere? I checked the Settings button, and I didn't see anything in there either.

Go to Gtalk and whoever has a camera icon next to there name you can video chat with. Just tap the camera and it will call them.
