Google voice not giving vmail notifications

Have gv set up for my vmail but it it not notifying me when I get new vmail. I'm getting all my text notifications fine. I've got notifications set up In the gv settings

I am receiving them fine..however, when I respond to messages in landscaping mode, the bar disappears so I can't see what I am texting.has this happen to you? Have you updated yet?

I've not had that issue yet, then again I usually do not text on it. My app is up to date. I just never get notified of a vmail
