Google voice with Sprint number

Ok I really need some help here guys. I always figure these things out on my own but I think I'm missing something here. The day I received my Evo 3D I decided it was a good time to give the gv with my sprint number a try. Im assuming that the visual voicemail app that came on the phone will no longer work with Google voice. is that correct? In order to get my voicemail I have to install the Google voice app but then all of my texts go through the Google voice app and not the the sense app. if I play with the settings I can get texts back into the sense app but lose voicemail notifications. Now I could set it to send me a notice via text but I would rather have Google voice integration act like a more seamless phone experience if that makes any sense to you guys. Am I assed out as far my options go?

I just noticed this today on my EVO 4G. I loaded a new ROM (kinda as a farewell since I will be getting the E3D tomorrow) and installed Google Voice and noticed the SPrint Number integration option in the setup. I hate the fact that all my txt's are going to my Google Voice app instead of my Message app like normal. And there aren't any configurable options for this in the setting!! I can't figure out how to uncofigure it either. I have completely uninstalled the app and VMs are still going to GV (because I keep getting txt messages from GV telling me I have a new VM!). It was WAY better how it was before!

I saw this somewhere which helped me get texts back in my regular app

Open up google voice inbox

Hit menu>more>settings>notifications and sync

*Edit* Check the box called Notifications via Text Message. It'll say you'll receive double notifcations. Hit okay, we'll fix that problem in a second.

Then, under that, disable all inbox notifications for Google Voice. This will prevent double notifications.

This will send the messages BACK to the stock messaging app (and to your GV inbox as well, but since you turned off GV notifications, you won't get a double notification for a text). The only downside is GV willtext you every time you get a voicemail (which is no big deal). Other than that, everything is back to normal.

SaWeet! Thanks for the instructions for the fix! I do recall with the older version that it would modify the Voicemail Service option in the Call Setting to Google, instead of My Carrier. This is not happening now, it still says My Carrier but GV is getting all my calls any way. Weird.

if you just want GV for the voicemail, you could back out of the whole sprint #-> GV thing and just use google voicemail attached to your phone number. That's what I did since I have no use for GV's other feature, and I get to keep my GV # as a virtual 2nd incoming AND outgoing line.

You can also configure Google Voice by going to voice.google.com (which sends you to https://google.com/voice). Login with your gmail username and password. You will then be taken to your Google Voice inbox. Click on your number in the upper right-hand side of that page, and you will be taken to settings. There are quite a few options. You can even group incoming numbers and handle each group differently. Have a look.

I did that and all my txt's still went to the GV inbox.

Well I liked the idea of logging all of my texts on Google voice as well as my voicemail. Plus being able to text from my PC using my sprint number is a plus because I don't feel like using my phone while I'm at home. I think I'm just just expecting too much from this whole arrangement. Might have undo this whole thing.

You must have selected to have sprint/gv integration. You do NOT want to "Enable Google Voice on this Sprint phone" but instead just activate google voicemail on the phone.. and do this FROM google.com/voice

From what I recall on the GV app on my mom's phone, if you log in that way, you don't really have the choice to do VM only.

Though, I'm not sure how to undo Sprint integration.

Yeah, I hear ya. I was thinking of doing all that myself, too. Until I learned I wouldn't be able to make any more outgoing calls w/ my GV number (just incoming). And I'm wary of it screwing up any mobile minutes, heh.

Man, thanks is for these posts. I had gv for about 12 hrs earlier this week and deleted becasue I couldn't figure out how to keep stock messaging app and the stupid press 1 to accept a call. I'll mess around again this weekend and hopefully I can get it to work the way I want. Reason I want gv is for my galaxy tab

Here's how you remove the GV from your phone. Log into your google voice on your pc.
Goto Settings>Voice Settings>Phone
Click on "Disable" next to your phone

**This action will remove the GV from your phone and put it back to your Sprint Voicmail where you'll be able to get your VM as text too. However, when dialing you'll have a choice to select the way you want to dial out.

Hope this helps. :)

Google Voice and the Evo 3d-calls, sms

I had an evo 4g Shift, and I had set it up when I made a call to ask me each time to use google voice or not

But I cannot seem to get my new Evo 3d to do the same thing...there re plenty of internet calling over wi-fi options but no options in google voice itself or phone settings to do this

I had also noticed that all SMS texts were going into google voice inbox but I was able to change the notification settings with another post that fixed it.

any ideas

Where has the gv or cell number outgoing call option gone? I can't figure it out.

I think we should all write to Google about the whole integration thing. I tried it when it was released and then went back to normal...

Basically I like the fact that my text messages were being logged in my online account. I DID NOT LIKE that I had to uses GV for text messaging on my phone. If I turn off notifications on Google Voice (too prevent double notifications) , I lose Voicemail notifications too.

Dear Google:

I would like to integrate my Sprint number with Google Voice, BUT, I would like an option in the GV app that will disable my text notifications while keeping the Voicemail notifications, allowing me to use the stock messaging app, or whichever app I choose for text messaging. That is all.

Just went through this myself earlier today. As linh.nquyen says, disable Google voice on the phone as he indicates. If you still want to have the option to dial out with a Google Voice number, set that via the settings of the Google Voice app on the phone. You will have to restart the phone to make this effective.

When i get a phone call and I answer it, a female voice tells me that an unknown number is calling u (although I can see in the caller Id who it is) press one to answer press 2 to send to vmail. Anyone else experiencing this?
