Google vs Samsung

So this is my first Samsung since the S2, coming from Sony Xperia compact series (Z1c then Z5c)

It would appear Samsung have created an alternative to every Google app.

Which apps do you reccomend choosing Google versions, and which should I choose Samsung's, and how do I delete the other?

So far I'm with Google Calendar, Samsung Email and Android Pay. Really struggling to decide between photos and gallery.

i think this is down to personal preference. what i usually do is try one app for a week or two then the other app and see which one i like best. they all have pros and cons but it comes down to what u really need from them.
the beauty of android is that if you don't like an app there are more you can chose from in the play store

I'm with ^ on this one. Its all up to you. It's got to for with personal taste and experience..

For photos you'll probably just have to use both. I use prefer Google Photos as it has great cloud storage but the camera app uses the Samsung Gallery App by default and can't be changed so they need to coexist.

Samsung makes one of the best internet browsers. I use Samsung's browser over chrome.

With everything else, I use Google's version mostly.

Hmm, that's frustrating. When I delete photos in gallery I notice they're still there in photos. Using both means twice as much work deleting the rubbish pix I've taken... or is there a work around I've missed?

If you delete photos in the Google Photos app they will be removed from the Gallery app too (if you have Samsung Cloud backup turned off)

Samsung Pay IMO is better than Google Pay.

I use Samsung internet because of
Samsung Pass. Chrome bookmarks sync as well.

Samsung Calendar syncs almost instantly with Google Calendar.

I use both Samsung Notes & Google Keep. Keep can be used across multiple platforms, but I like Samsung Notes' mobile interface better.

I do use both Google Asst. & Bixby. Different uses for each.

I'm fully invested in the Google ecosystem, but for the most parts Samsungs apps sync well with Google services.

I use Chrome on both my desktop and phone, so I'm sticking with Chrome. I'm still trying to find a good notes app to import my PDFs from my LG G6 notes. Samsung Notes isn't able to import from PDFs. I've been a huge fan of QuickPic for a long time. I mostly use that and Google Photos. I like being able to see which pictures are actually on my device as opposed to being in the cloud.

I never really used cloud storage until my SD card corrupted losing a year's worth of pix (including the first 6 months of my son). I'm a fan of onedrive so sync to that but the unlimited photo storage with Google Photos is making me take a relook.

also linked to onedrive, I use OneNote and office for documents etc. haven't quite ventured into Google docs territory yet, but wife has a Chromebook and I don't like Microsoft's new subscription based price tag for office, so might give docs a go. Samsung notes just seems like throwing another option in just for the sake of it

I also prefer Samsung apps over Googles. That's why when reviewers complain about duplicate apps I laugh. I actually prefer Samsung apps. I hate the Google messaging app and Calendar app. Their ugly. Samsung adds more functionality with their apps that I enjoy.

I use Google's apps for the most part as I wasn't any transition to a different brand to be as seamless as possible. I only use Samsung Pay over Android Pay due to the MST.

I also prefer Samsung's apps over Google's. I did have a go at all of them over the years. I also download the Google ones when they get major updates, but so far by my book they're all inferior to Samsung's versions with the possible exception of Keep. But then I use neither Keep nor Samsung Notes so that's moot.

Samsung has always tried to dominate the world of Android, pushing its alternative key applications. I do not like it very much.

I use a combination of Samsung and Google apps. I like Samsung pay and health. I only use Google Assistant instead of bixby. I actually go through phases where I use Gmail or Samsung's mail app. one feature available in Samsung's mail app not found in Gmail is the ability to snooze emails, which I love. however, Gmail makes it quicker to manage message in bulk. I also prefer the Google keyboard even though the Samsung keyboard is good.
