Google Wallet Not Working at Register

I have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus and it is NOT rooted. I had also sideloaded the most recent wallet APK and set up worked fine, my Google prepaid card is there with the money on it, I also added my other credit cards. So intallation and adding the cards & info worked perfectly fine.

However, I just tried using it at the store today. I know this store has new terminals with PayPass. The blue light was lit on the paypass terminal at the register, so I opened Google Wallet, held the back of my phone up to it, but nothing happened. I got as close to it as I could. MC's PayPass site does show this store has Paypass, so I'm guessing it should work. I also pressed "credit on the card terminal", but it was then waiting for me to swipe my credit card, so I didn't want to hold everyone up, I just paid with my debit card instead.

Am I missing something? Is there something else I should be doing for this work? Or does it not work because it's a Verizon phone or because it's sideloaded? I do have money loaded onto the prepaid card and it is set as my default.

It ought to work fine. I would suspect that the terminal was not turned on for paypass (usually you will see a green light right at the bottom of the paypass piece), or you maybe held the phone to the wrong part..? The paypass section is on top and you usually need to touch the back of the phone to it for a second or two for it to register. I'd try again, perhaps at a different store or terminal, before you suspect its a Wallet/device issue.

I just used Google wallet today to buy my lunch. On a stock gnex running the leaked jb ota I would suspect It was a terminal issue and not a phone issue

Thanks for the replies. The light on the one I tried using today was blue, not green, so maybe it's not working. I asked the clerk if anyone ever tried it and she said not to her knowledge, but she was quite interested in it and was hoping it would work. She wanted to see it. I did have the phone almost touching the terminal, but not actually touching. I guess I will try somewhere else. I do have a 7-Eleven nearby, so I'll have to try there.

It has to be fairly close. I touch the back of the phone to the terminal and move it back and forth, you should get a slight vibration when the NFC connects.

In all my experiences with not being able to use Google Wallet its usually due to :Cashier error in selection of tender, the machine isn't working, not enough funds on the right card and just once NFC wasn't enabled on my phone.

I definitely do have NFC enabled and double checked again just to be sure. Where I went, I have to select the form of payment myself, so I did select credit. I am pretty sure that is what Google says to do. Next time I'll press the phone onto the reader and move it a little like one poster said. I just have to find somewhere that this works, dying to try it! LOL I'm such a a girl geek :)

You have a nexus it needs to rooted.

But I sideloaded the most recent APK and got it all set up. I have read that it works for many others that sideload. I will get it figured out.

If I had google wallet when I was not rooted and I rooted loaded stock jb leak, can I side load google wallet again without any issues?

Re: Verizon Petition: Google Wallet

I finally found some 7-Elevens where my Wallet works. And it works perfectly. In one of them, the guy at the register had seen a few people use it, but at the other one, they were completely befuddled! LOLOL They were standing there confused and with their jaws dropped asking me what I just did and wanted to know what it was, etc. They didn't even know their register has PayPass.

Re: Verizon Petition: Google Wallet

There is a Whole Foods near my house. Some checkout lanes work, and others don't. I spoke with the manger about it and she was aware, she said she did not know why some work while others don't.
