Google's 'Wont let you hang-up' feature

I dont have a protector other than the plastic film that it was delivered with , I will however try your suggestion about the power button ending the call option, that seems to make the most sense. Thanks for the tip.

Uh, the plastic film that the phone shipped with? That is for shipping purposes. It is not meant to be kept on the phone once you start using it. If you still have that on the screen then that is likely your problem.

Remove it. Test by calling your own number (voice mail).

This obviously isn't a real issue.
This is a very real issue that affects a lot of people. If you don't believe me perform an internet search on the issue.

otherwise the OP would be working with us to solve the problem
I've already taken the best suggestion and implemented it. I set the phone to use the power button to hang up, as was suggested by a contributor.
I posted to this effect and thanked the contributor for their help.

You have neglected to tell us if you removed the shipping film from the screen. Did removing that restore normal proximity sensor function?

Given you have no powers of moderation and no forum rules have been broken in this thread, what exactly do you intend to do?

Are you going to just argue with people or are you going to actually answer the legitimate troubleshooting questions and suggestions from the people that are trying to help you?

As I now have a working solution to the problem I have no need to try and implement further solutions, but I do thank you for your time.

the thing is though that you may actually have a legitimately defective device and you should find that out. If there is a real hardware problem with it working around it is not really a solution. You may find more hardware problems in the coming weeks and/or months that could be avoided by getting a replacement if you do have a defective device.

You have a work-around, not a solution. People have been offering you a potential solution, but you don't seem interested in trying that. You'd rather argue with folks.

Okay. If you don't have time or desire to work with us to actually SOLVE the real problem (as opposed to having a blank screen while on a call) then I'll move on.

Good luck.

So you didn't remove the screen cover the phone shipped with? In that case, your complaint is moot. There is no problem with your phone. There's only a problem with the way you use it.

I disagree, I can now hang-up every time I finish a call which fixes the original problem. Removing the film has not made a difference to the issue, - I suspected it wouldnt as it didnt cover the part of the phone in which the sensor lies.

But again, you have a real problem that you haen't solved. Your solution to the problem is in the same lines as getting a new fridge and noticing that it doesn't keep your milk cold, so you put a couple blocks of ice in and close the door. Now your milk is cold, but it does not solve the problem that your fridge is broken.

A point you never clarified. More than one person asked you if you removed the shipping film, and you didn't answer the question. We asked that because we've seen your issue dozens of times and it has almost always been the solution to your problem.

If you're convinced that it is not, then you have a broken/defective phone. If you want to leave it that way, fine. Just know that the phone is defective and not working the way it was designed to. Your loss.

Also, I recommend checking the power button ends call option so at least you can end the call with the power button if it still doesnt work.

Thanks for this tip. I didn't know that feature existed.

Great piece of info Rizy, most touchscreen phones Ive owned have done this to at one point or other, the sensors dont always seem to work 100% of the time so this is really handy to know. Thankyou!

I set the phone to use the power button to hang up
The only problem with that solution is that if you want to use the phone to do something else while you talk, for instance surf the net while you talk, and so you need to turn the screen back on, you can't without pressing the power button and hanging up the call.

Let it go. He's satisfied with the "solution". Others perceive any attempt to educate the uninitiated as hostility, so let it go. ;)

well I would hate to see him miss the warranty period if his hardware is defective. He probably doesn't realize that if he receives an incoming text while on the phone, he won't be able to read it unless he hangs up the phone because he won't be able to turn on the screen without pressing the power button. I can't tell you how many times I receive an incoming text while on the phone.

A lesson that he will have to learn on his own. That's how it is for some people.

I agree. This thread is no longer productive. I do wish we could have come up with some more alternative solutions, but I'm sure we'll get another chance. I see this topic come up at least once a month.
