Goophone x1 "no service"

I'm new to this forum and to android in general so please refrain from throwing large rocks at my head if I'm just being stupid.
I got an unlocked, rooted goophone x1, shoved in my SIM and it's not connecting to the network. It recognizes the SIM and stuff but it says "NO SERVICE - ROGERS" and gives a red X on the signal strength icon. I checked the wireless frequencies on which it operates to make sure it should work on my network. I was told that I had to set up the APN so I did that: no difference. When I manually search for available networks it says "Error while searching for networks" so it seems like it's not finding a network to connect to.
After looking for similar problems online I thought it might be a problem with the modem/radio but I am unsure how to fix that. References I've found to screwing around with modems seem to use clockworkmod recovery and it looks like there is not a clockworkmod recovery for the goophone x1.
Has anyone had a similar problem and managed to fix it? Any suggestions?

it does sound like a radio problem. but it could be sim related. did you have to cut it? the phone being rooted could have been flashed with something that messed with the radios. i cant help there. sim is all i have for you. good luck

Thanks.
I did not have to cut the sim. I tried it with another sim as well with the same result. :(

Nope. I found 2 roms for it and tried installing each them and now my touchscreen no longer works. I've mostly given up. :(

As far as i know Goophone's are cheap copycats of the real phones.
So you might be unlucky that you got a bad one.

But i will for my defence point out that i have no knowledge about why your phone don't have any signal. It's just what i think it is.
But it would be nice if anyone could confirm the reason.

Most probably your phone has a signal problem or it doesn't support the specific carrier frequency.

A coworker has one of these at work and getting the same exact issue. I've been screwing around with *#*#4636#*#* menu and it isn't seeing any neighboring CIDs. I've tried setting it for CDMA, GSM, WCDMA, etc, but nothing works.

The phone sees the SIM because it is pulling the data service and number off of the sim. The problem is that is isn't pulling up ANY carrier. When manually searching for networks, it should find ALL of the local networks, regardless if you have access or not. But when searching all I get is that error. We are trying to connect to Cincinnati Bell Wireless, which piggybacks off Tmobile. The phone isn't finding anything.

The only thing I can think of is that is isn't a GSM phone or only supports 1-2 odd chinese frequencies?

I even tried moving the SIM from 1 to 2. Still nothing. Sounds like the cellular antennas may just be bad? Doing an exchange with a Chinese company sounds expensive and drawn out.

I have a similar problem with my goophone s5 .My calls and texts work fine but my internet isn't working at all and there is no letter near the signal bar to say I have an internet connection on my phone . I have set up the correct APN settings for my mobile network (tesco mobile/o2) but my internet still does not work. 😕😤
