Gorilla Glass 4 on the Galaxy S6 = Not that tough.

Ok, in all seriousness, what is the point of glass on the BACK of the phone? Can someone please tell me what is the functional purpose of that?
Seems like a failure point that could be eliminated. Is there a purpose for it? Thanks.

I could not agree more...and have been saying this ever since the construction details were revealed.

It is the BACK of the freaking phone. I primarily want the back to be designed to be comfortable to hold and provide a gripping surface. Samsung missed the boat on both of those criteria in my opinion...and then made it worse by adding another sheet of glass that I need to protect...or worry about shattering.

And reviewers are head over heals in love with it. I swear, reviewers are pushing manufacturers to do things that either have no value or have a negative net value.

Want a high end back that doesn't completely miss the boat? Check out LG's new G4 (or at least the teasers and rumors). Curved, so it is comfortable to hold. Removable to access the battery and replace the back with a different version. Available in many configurations, including numerous shades of leather, which is both attractive and provides gripping surface. And it doesn't shatter. Tests have shown that similar leather backs wear very well over time...and if it doesn't, who cares? The back is user-replaceable. Props to LG.

Funny how the only drop test showing the S6 shattering on the first try was sponsored by a case and accessory manufacturer... Probably just coincidence, huh?

At least they didn't slam it on concrete or throw it off a parking garage.

Right, you're talking about the design YOU want. If you don't like it, get something else.

Design is subjective. The beauty of choice is, if you don't like it, you can get something else.

I actually haven't seen any threads about an epidemic of broken backs on all the forums I visit, so it appears to be pretty durable. The iPhone 4 glass back cracked if you breathed on it.

Besides, you can put a case with a grippier back on the S6 and still end up with a smaller phone than the G4. IMO, the G4 is too big to comfortably hold, leather back or not.

I have had an absolutely abysmal time with this glass back! when it breaks the glass gets on your fingers and it hurts. I have even tried to get an otterbox and put tape over it to make a barrier so the pain would stop. Every now and then the glass gets out and I have to do a detail of my otterbox to get the glass off. It seems like its impossible as well to get all of it off. Whoever thought it was a good idea to make the front and the back of a phone glass is an *****! I love the note series, but this is too much for me.
