Wow, twilight zone kinda stuff here!

Fingerprint reader after 2+ weeks of perfection suddenly doesn't recognize me. Regardless of what I do it will not acknowledge my fingerprint!

2nd option is unlock with password: Hmmm, i think I know my password, but my fingerprint has worked so well I haven't used it. Enter what I think it is, negative. 2nd option, negative. Negative, negative, negative.

At this point I go grab my Moto 360 which is a trusted device, aka should disable password requirement. I get the 360 to connect, nada- the device is adamant about a password. It will not unlock!

Go to the car, another "trusted" zone- I get a quick connection but the device still wants the password. It refuses to unlock.

Now I see the "unlock with google option- perfect I think. Enter my user and password- declined!

At this point I believe that I am losing my mind, and the world is against me. It is 4:15, and I have a 4:30 call with a billion dollar company I am trying to recruit.

Reboot- clean fingerprint sensor for the 50th time.

Try fingerprint again, fail. Connected to the moto 360 trusted device, unlock= fail! Password attempts- every known combo I have ever used= fail!

At this point, I start to focus on "unlock with google". My known user and password is not working. WTF! So I conclude that since my device is secured with 2 factor, it wants a device specific password and not my normal google password.

Try and go to google.com on my desktop- it wants a 2 factor code from the app on my phone which is locked! HAAAAAA!

Decide to try and get a text sent instead, but I have google voice for SMS and it too is locked! Cant read the text!

I am floored at this point, and realizing I have really gotten into a bad situation.

Finally I go and grab an ipad which is thankfully logged into google which enables me to go to the security settings on google.com and set a device specific password. I create it- and then enter the 16 digit p/w into my phone on the "unlock with google" screen. Finally, I am in!

Lock it again, fingerprint unlock works immediately!

Wow, unreal holy ****! What an ordeal!

That was a perfect storm.

Why did you have to two-factor into your Google account on your desktop? Did it automatically lock you out due to failing on the phone? Or do you typically log out of your Google account on your desktop?

Now would be a good time to either add a backup phone to authenticate with on your Google account, or go to your account's security page and print out a backup code, and keep it secure somewhere (like a safe at home, or a safety deposit box). https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1187538?hl=en

No, it was just a work computer where I am not typically logged in.

Good advice on the printout, I will do that.
