I've had Virgin Mobile awhile, for awhile had the Kyocera Rise but after it broke last week (Friday) I got the Kyocera Event for $65 at Radio Shack. I was content with it, but sort of wished I had ponied up the money for the Galaxy S II, Reverb or HTC EVO V rather than "settling." Seeing someone at a garage sale selling a Galaxy S II only made me wish this even more.
Then, 2 days ago (last Wednesday), I saw someone selling the HTC EVO 4 for only $70 on Craigslist. Wow, that can't be right--nope, it was. It was in pristine shape and even had 2 weeks of service left over on a $35 account. (They changed to T-Mobile.)
It took some doing to get the phone's ESN unlocked from that account and free & clear to put on my own account--the seller was fine with speaking to care on the phone & giving his consent, they said it was fine but when I got home it wasn't, but they sent a text to the phone with its PIN, so I was able to take the account completely over (I moved the account to an old cracked LG Optimus Elite I have laying around as a spare). From there, it transitioned over to my account with ease.
So far--oh yes, I love this thing. 4.3 inches is sure better than 3.5 inches, and this is the first 4" device that works okay. (A Galaxy S on AT&T had horrible GPS, the Triumph also had horrible GPS, bad voice quality, unresponsive screen and horrible battery life). The only thing I prefer about the Event is it has more of a "stock" interpretation of ICS vs the HTC Sense treatment, but overall it's fine. I also love how it boots-up so quickly. It is most certainly a HUGE upgrade over the Event if you want a larger screen, and for only $10 more--wow.
I just love bargains like this.
