Got my Dock, it sux

ICS 4.04 has a selection for Dock in the settings. I assume it will work correctly but I haven't bought a dock. Were did you guys buy your docks? I see were Samsung is sellin them. I think I may go for it and order one.

$90 is a rip off for some plastic and wires. But it is sold out and back ordered, so maybe Sammy will acknowledge the demand and also get the car dock into gear.

Agreed. I am waiting for a POGO car dock. That would be too easy.

The official release says no audio from phone speaker while in Doc. This SUX! So i can not use it as a desktop alarm or for calendar alerts??? No... I am not going to hook up an external speaker/amp through the sound port, the speaker on the phone is more than adequate. $90 for just a charger?? My Droid X had an HDMI dock, with audio that worked and it only cost $39!!!! Is this progress two years later?

I upgraded my Nexus to 4.0.4 and the dock works as advertised. Why would those dopes at samsung release the doc if it only works reliably with 4.0.4, which only tinkerers and geeks might have?

Wait, so it is a charger which turns off the phone's speakers, meaning you are REQUIRED to hook up external speakers just to use it as an alarm (probably one of the primary uses it will have as a nightstand dock)?

If true, idiotic.

Yep, it's true.

Nope, I just tried it. When I disconnected the external speakers, sound came out of the phone's speaker.

Well, that's good news! Worthless to me otherwise. If it comes down in price, I will check it out now!

I am having the exact same problems as everyone else. I can get it to dock correctly once every twenty five times or so.

I was thinking of flashing 4.04, where did you get the update from? Also, I've never flashed, rooted and unlocked a few times, but never flashed, do you have a link to show how to update to 4.04 and back to stock by chance?

We ordered one as well, and I've been futzing with it

Here's what I've learned:
Stock 4.0.2 DOES have the kernel drivers that trigger docking, but does not have the spot in the settings for Dock. I use a GSM nexus, and didn't have trouble going into "Car Mode", but the only thing Car Mode does is turn the screen sideways :P The phones speaker doesn't work while docked, nor does the mic.

I built AOSP 4.0.3r1 last night and flashed it, and the dock works as expected every time -- goes into deskclock mode, all buttons work, and all sound works, both from the phone speaker and from the external speaker jack. BT always worked FYI. Phone calls are automatically put into speakerphone, and the alarm works just fine.

short version -- 4.0.2 doesn't have all the software for dock operation. AOSP 4.0.3 does. I'll assume the 4.0.4 leak does, too. Welcome to the joy of having a Nexus, and being the final beta tester for Android :)

Because I'm a total basement nerd, I got some thin wire and a multimeter out. If anyone wants to make their own Pogo pin dock:
Top pogo pin (closest to the power button) is + voltage
Bottom pin is ground
Center pin is digital signal used for audio

So I flashed 4.04 and dock works just like it supposed to. Brings up the clock mode when first docked, then pressing the back button brings you to the desktop mode. Line out works perfect. Been streaming Slacker for 20 minutes without any cutouts. It's not the dock that is the problem, it seems that it's a software update that is needed.

EDIT: Here's my lame video but still shows it working correctly.

Yep, it's true.

Sort of true. If you dock the phone when the screen is shut off it will go into landscape mode and the speaker will not work. When you dock the with the screen on it will not go into landscape mode but the speaker works. Either way shame on Samsung for releasing a dock at any costs when it does not work properly. They are now admitting the problem and saying it will work when the phones are updated to 4.04.

Hate to dredge this up, but has anyone found a setting to prevent the phone from sleeping when in the dock? Once it sleeps, there is no way to get it back unless you take the device out of the dock and put it back, since the power button is inside the dock.
