Got new update today, noticing more memory usage

Before the update, when I would use the clear memory button on the Task Manager app, it would normally show memory usage between 350-380MB with nothing running. Now, it's more like 450-480, and usually runs over 500. On a potentially related note, it appears that the battery is also draining a little quicker than normal. Anybody else experiencing this occurring?

My battery is draining somewhat quicker but I suspect it's because of the LTE signal. I have been using it a lot more now. :D

Omega, congrats on being one of the lucky few that get to use the LTE! :) We don't have any LTE available here in central FL (neither the Tampa/St. Pete area nor Orlando), so I don't think my extra battery usage is related to that.

At least my wife's EVO can use the wimax 4G, so she gets a little something out of the extra $20/month we pay for the 4G surcharge for our phones (I know, they are now calling it a smartphone surcharge).

I wish mine showed 450-480. Mine is in the 800s and above. Most of the time sits at 0.92GB. When I clear the memory it goes to almost 600MB. How many hours of battery life are you getting? How much screen time are you showing at the end of the day? I get about 16 hours a day with about 4 to 5 hours of screen time. To me that is not good. I use to get much more before the second update.

I noticed that my battery was draining faster as well and using clear memory left me at about 480. What I've done to fix this (not very scientific) is to disable some programs I won't use anyway. You can do this in application manager under the all tab. I've disabled dropbox, game hub, media hub, s suggest, samsung cloud data relay, sns, wallet, yahoo finance & yahoo news, google play magazine, music hub. Battery life improved after this, clearing memory brought me back to 378.

My question: When I look at things draining my battery, the screen is number 1 at 41%, cell standby #2 at 26%. Anyone else getting the same? I'm not on a 4G network & use wifi almost all the time. 3G is rarely enabled. Your thoughts are welcome.

From my understanding, the amount of RAM being utilized has nothing to do with poor battery performance. In fact it is often just the opposite. Your RAM (and our GS3 has a ton) will hold data from previous programs so that it can easily be retrieved quickly without having to re-open programs from scratch. This is a much more efficient way to run your phone. The dormant information stored in RAM will not put any drain on the battery and will in fact prevent battery drain because there are now less operations for your phone to perform.
