You don't need to root to use wifi.

I was actually referring to wifi hotspot, which is what I thought the ops were discussing. Sorry if that was a little unclear. But I prefer (don't NEED it but really want it) to have wifi hotspot or even tethering off my phone...as long as I can get internet on my laptop (w/o having to pay VZ's $20 a month).

PS. Let's not get sidetracked on the is it right or wrong debate.

yeah right those emails won't come out until after the phone launches. Bionic/thunderbolt sign up some didn't get an email for weeks after it was for sale.

Did a search for SVDO in this thread and didn't see it mentioned. Does the GN support this? Phone + data on 3G simultaneously.

Doubt it. The Thunderbolt is the only phone to do so thus far, and it had an extra radio to do it.
