Got the Camera beast in my hands, absolutely loving it, a little bigger and heavier than the Mate 20 Pro, but understandably so due to the periscope camera in it.

Overall, I am loving the smaller notch, I can now see more notifications which is most welcome, the Camera also seems to be faster, I think this can be attributed to the new File System, everything seems to be that bit more nippy.

Just to clarify mine is the 256GB 8GB RAM version.

hello Tsepz, im getting mine on Tuesday, please share some info on lock screen notifications, not that it is a deal breaker. Also have you got a case and a screen protector? are there any issues with those? thanks

How does the speaker sound compared to the M20p? I've only had the Mate a few days now and my wife is getting the P30p and offered to swap. I love the dual stereo speakers though as well as the 3D face unlock so I think the only gain although a big one would be the Zoom on the camera.

Oh and is there a notification led?

Thanks

I'm really glad that the smaller notch is making notification viewing more convenient. I guess I should have figured that a smaller notch = more notification space, but it's still really nice to know that.

Also, that colour is superb. Man, I really think my next phone will be a P30. Can't shake my addiction to my Pixel 2 now, though!

How does it feel in the hand? Is it clunky to carry around? Also, I forget if there is a headphone jack with this phone.

What would you like to know about the Lockscreen Notifications? So far it's a lot like the Mate 20 Pro, with the Always On Display still having a limit on what apps it shows for notifications.

Yes, there's the soft gel case that comes in the box and seems to suffice, it's strong and tight enough on the phone.

No Screen Protector.

The speaker is not as good as Mate 20 Pro Stereo Speakers, it's really a step back in that area, so it's not ideal for playing videos in loudspeaker, rather use headphones.

I have both the Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro and would say the P30 Pro is better in:
- Camera
- Screen Size + notch size
- Internal Hardware (256GB internal mem, 8GB RAM + New File System)
- Battery Life
- Faster Fingerprint Scanner

While the Mate 20 Pro is better in:
- Design (Smaller and lighter)
- Screen Quality (higher resolution, looks much smoother and more crisp)
- Loudspeakers (Stereo Speakers)
- Notifications LED
- 3D Facial Recognition

so it's up to you what you feel is important. The P30 Pro does seem to run faster thanks to the new File System to.

Nope, no there is no Notifications LED in the P30 Pro, from what I can see, so I have turned on Always On Display.

How good is the camera at shooting in total darkness, without flash. Any sample?
This was shot in the dark, but I will do more samples, I was testing out Night Mode with this. There were bits of light coming in, but the car was mostly in the dark, the phone resolved a lot of detail

I think you'd like this from a mobile enthusiasts perspective, it's a great device, but it's definitely not for everybody, your question around size is the reason, the P30 Pro is large, has a more "squared off" blocky design, and thanks to the huge 4200mAh battery + the 8MP Periscope camera that they have packed in here, it is heavy, this phone tips the scale at 192g, which is quite hefty, I do not mind this as the phone feels incredibly solid, but if you are coming from a standard Pixel 2 and not the XL, then you will find the P30 Pro quite the unwieldy device, it is packing some serious hardware.

Nope, no 3.5mm jack unfortunately in the Pro.

How is the curved screen with accidental touches when reaching across it?
Better than the Mate 20 Pro, the phone comes with a case in the box and this limits accidental presses, I'm tempted to say the curve may be a little steaper than the Mate 20 Pro, or there is more "flat screen area" due to the display being larger.

Thank you so much for your in-depth response! It definitely sounds like the P30 Pro would be too big for me. I'm thinking about trying out the P30 in the hand to see if the smaller version would be workable for me.

That's too bad about the headphone jack, but them's the breaks with phones these days!
