Needless to say, I'm super PISSED... I was using my data for browsing and turning it off to save battery. What now?
I want UNLIMITED, not this donkey poo.

For the last time, it is not a cap. It just means that you will be throttled down to 256kps if you exceed 2.5gb which should not be a problem for anyone other than idiots who teather like idiots. If you want to leave vm which may not be the best plan, but by God is the cheapest, go ahead. Maybe it'll make our data faster.

*facepalm*
It's not a hard cap... You will probably not even get close to it unless you are streaming Netflix all the time.

it IS unlimited lol

even then, 256kbs is still more than enough for your "browsing" needs

There are just way too many of these threads about a cap that's not actually a cap that hasn't even happened yet. I can't imagine how many more of these threads will pop up when it comes into effect and a few people get throttled.
;)

Right but it's only the idiot people who talk about tethering 20+ gigs of data which are complaining. It's just dumb plus they don't even read, it clearly says that it'll throttle you, not that there's a cap. For some people they think it's happening now, then they say "I'm going to t mobile" or something. Just let them go xD

Uh, ok, so UNLIMITED is in terms of liberal hypocrisy - eat whatever you want, but you've got only 5 minutes.

Why isn't this a problem for wired internet? I mean, enough is enough BS.

Saying all you can eat but only for 5 minutes is a stupid analogy that describes a cap, not a throttle.

A cap means when you hit that limit you are either done or be prepared to pay with an arm and a leg.

A better analogy for Virgin is, you can drive as fast as you want, but once your gas tank is empty you have to slow down to 45mph. You can keep driving for as long as you want and as far as you want, without paying extra, but only at 45mph.

And how much data are you REALLY using?
If you use wifi while at home or in places that support it, very few people will actually even hit that limit. Very few people hit that limit without any effort at all. Even after hitting the limit you still have plenty of speed for music streaming. Web surfing may be slowed a little, but considering most peoples speeds before the limit, it will hardly be noticeable.

You do realize wired internet has a cap too. I get a letter from my ISP three times a year because of Netflix. Comcast has been under the gun for capping peoples internet also.

Look either understand what is going to happen or just GTFO. You want this fixed? How about instead of posting here ing and moaning and telling us we only have five minutes to eat, get off your lazy ass and start writing your congress person and state representatives and hell even the President and tell them you are tired of having no options and the big businesses force feeding us crap options.

All of your posts have been about the unlimited data drama. I suspect you are one of the people 99% of the people here would like to leave VM. I bet you bought your phone to use the tether ability because your too damn cheap to pay for regular internet. Now that your not going to be able to stream videos from bang bros anymore your throwing a fit. Now begone with your cheap ass you have yet to post anything worth while or contribute to the community I think I can speak for them in saying we dont want you here anymore.

It is a problem for wired Internet but that is completely different. They have the ability to provide unlimited though fiber optics and other technology but some ISP's choose to cap their service instead of innovating.

It is very different for wireless. There is not an unlimited amount of spectrum for wireless carriers to use and using new technology such as LTE will only go so far before you max out what you can provide.

Just to play devil's advocate: this guys said nothing about tethering, all he was doing was some simple browsing, and seeing his join date tells methat he probably didn't understand that he probably wont be affected. Also he probably just got his phone and was excited about this "unlimited data" feature which he probly didn't have on his former plan, and he was upset having just gotten on board to have this feature supressed.

That said... I agree with what everyone is saying, and it is extremely pointless to rant about this on a phone hacking forum when the problem lies with Sprint/VM. The problem lies with greedy people, and until people decide to stop being greedy (LOL what a joke), people will try to offerthe minimum quality at a high price. I am not saying that virgin is doing this, they are in fact offering us decent service at a decent price, but other companies are creating problems for us the consumer.
/RANT

Btw... Ron Paul for president

If you stream high quality audio for about 3 hours a day, watch a ton of youtube videos, or watch Netflix, you can hit the limit.

There is however almost ZERO chance of hitting the cap just surfing and the only other way to hit that limit, is through tethering.

2gigs of data on the OV is a LOT of data. Remember it shipped with only 2.5 gigs of total storage, and that includes the SD card. So other than streaming, there is almost nothing you can do on the phone that can eat up that much data, which is exactly why they say this will only impact 1% or less of their customers. 99% of people simply cannot get there. Of that 1%, how many do you think tether or watch Netflix? I would almost bet on every one of them.

I'm lucky to get above 256kb of data speed in my area so no big deal for me with the data throttle.

This is this month's usage

Lol even if you add your wifi and billable together it isn't enough to get throttled. What app is that tho?

I didn't get a text about it, I got an email. Maybe the high usage customers are getting the warning directly?

No, I got an email and a text, they just aren't texting everyone at the same time. Alot of people got the text at the beginning of last month, but I just got my text last week. No one is mentioning the emails because they probably haven't checked their email.

You get them when your account re-starts for the month. It seems like you get it one or two billing cycles before the change depending on your plan start date. Some may have gotten it earlier if they went over 2.5 gigs.

3G Watch Dog Pro. Sorry about it being a orange hue, it was taken using the night render xD, But it's exactly what I'm talking about, you theoretically should use more on wifi than 3G (assuming you have wi-fi at home. If you don't, it still shouldn't be that much. And here is even a list of which apps are taking what out of my 3G:

Dialer, Dialer Storage: 27.1mb
Browser: 22mb
Maps: 20.8mb
Dolphin Browser HD: 20.8mb
Pandora: 8.7mb
Download Manager, Downloads, DRM Protected Content Service, Media Storage: 7.6mb
SwiftKey X: 6.2mb

And the rest are 1-3 mb, and thats just for this month (pda net is 52.2kb by the way)

my major issue with virgin mobile is the weak phones they offer along with the high prices the Optimus V is a great phone but it is showing its age and the fact that sprint won't open activation to used sprint phones on virgin mobile just makes upgrading a way more expensive option. There is no option to upgrade unless you buy their phones and by the time you spring for a better phone you might as well buy a tablet and tether. This whole throttling just compounds the problems I have with virgin mobile.
