GPS comparison with Note 4

Hello all, I thought this was interesting.. I used a Note 4 for 3 years, I hiked the same 14 mile route using its GPS and the Runkeeper app around 20 times and it always said between 13.95 and 14.06 miles.

First time out this weekend on the same trail with the Note 8. It totals 13.59 miles. Looking at the trace, it did not skip any portions and had a lock the entire hike.

so I assume the GPS in this newer phone is more accurate, with less drift every time I start and stop, causing the path to shorten by .4 miles. I have to find another .4 miles to add to my route!

Also, the elevation gain went from 2200 to 1600 feet .. again, I guess going over the small ups and downs we have around here gives plenty of opportunity for the more accurate GPS to reduce the overall change it detects.

I'm just surprised by the difference! love this phone.

I am coming from a N3 to this great N8. I found the GPS much more accurate. While indoors, it located my house exactly with the correct address. Furthermore, I don't see the GPS draining my battery like it did with my old phone. So I keep it turned on all of the time.
