HI I have been exprimenting with GPS to see how accurate the thunderbolt is. when I first got the thunderbolt it had a hard time locking on so I downloaded several apps 1. GPS STATUS/toolbox by Eclipsim, 2. Ulyysse Gizmos by Binarytoys, 3. My Tracks by My Tracks Team at Google and 4. Google Maps. The first two heped Gps lock faster. Google maps seems to be the most accurate for my location. It seems to be for the most part dead on with my current location. This is even better then the coordinates given by my patrol car camera's GPS the coordinates. When I type in the coordinates on in car camera GPS it puts my location approximately 25 meters away on google maps, when I do this I can see both locations on screen. So I consider the car GPS close but not as accurate. Then we come to the first two GPS Status and Ulyysse both give very off GPS coordinates. When I type in the GPS coordinates it pust my location approximatey 5-10 miles away My town is 36 sq. miles and it puts my location two towns away. I dont think the GPS is issue I'm suspecting the software is issue, both programs show 4-9 sat. locked in and google maps is showing my exact location to bad it doesnt give me th gps coordiantes. Hey Google feel free to use the idea!!! I tried to map my property with my tracks but I walked a straight lline from one marker to another and MY TRACK showed me walking a very Drunk Line LOL so what does everyone think?

Are you using the same data format on all of them? Some systems use degrees and fractions of a degree. Some are degrees and minutes and fractions of minutes. Some are degrees, minutes and seconds. They can look about the same, but when you use the wrong one, you are off a good bit.

yea pretty much they all ist it as 40.xxxx W and -74.xxxx N some of the apps list the coridinates as ex: 40.xxxxxx W I know the 40 is degrees then the next two digits are minutes then the next two or 4 depnding on app is seconds I have looked up how this is suppose to be entered in google maps and most posts list it as the degrees, minutes, seconds ex: 40.xxxx the west and north are not always needed but you can add when entering on googe maps. if I am sitting in my living room I type in my known cordinates to google maps on phone and it puts me right in the house but still when I type in the coridinates from GPS Status or Ulyyses its way off :(

Try this.
Go to GPS status. Go to Menu/Settings/Units & Formatting/Location format. Select DD.DDDDDD.
Try that number system in Google.

All apps are going to use the same internal GPS measurements, so I think you're right, it's the software in the apps.

I use Orux Maps for tracking. I've used it for hiking as well as cross-country drives and it is always dead on. The only issue I have with it is that I am most interested in simply tracking my routes and not in all the fancy maps functionality that comes with it. Turning on/off tracking is a 4 or 5 click process, where I wish it was 1 click. Other than that, I think it's great software.

Try EveryTrail for tracking. It is easy to start up and is very gentle on the battery from what I have seen.

Have you tried going into google maps and then

Menu>More>Cache Settings>Clear map tile cache.

Also try this too Settings>Locations&security>Use wireless networks<------ check this on.

I was about 2 blocks away on my initial location search.

After doing the above It showed me not only in my house, but exactly where i was positioned
in my house wow!

Hope this helps
